Removal of old telewest ont box(VM)

Hello posted here ,

Having moved to Youfibre and needing to replaster a wall back to brick my Virgin my edia install ( telewest). I've pulled off and only thing left is the black coax coming in from outside . Now should I leave and work around it or cut it off. In the possible very iffy chance I want VM again should I leave it or do they install different fibre on new installs anyway .

I do have a slight problem that my YF install is on that wall too far right in the corner and I don't want to damage it if I try to remove the 30mm of plaster close to it . it's getting left as is at the moment The fibre entry point is covered by a circular white cap. if that was to come off the wall too. Would it be a call to YF to fix. I believe is £100 call out .

Anyone know what under the white cap , obviously the fibre from outside but would it be easy to reattached

There is usually a Virgin Media "junction box" on the outside wall. Double check this is the case. There is a barrel connector joining the wire from the box to the one coming inside your house. If you have this, cut the fplug from inside your house and pull the cable out. You should have been left a little screw end to fit on the fplug connector, re-attachbit. Make sure you leave the cable in such a way that water does not get into the cable.

If there is a only a little chance of getting VM again i would cut it out and foam the hole they will put another line in if you take it out again but you would have to ring them and tell them the line was removed because they will have it down as already having it installed, a family member had this issue and they just sent the kit out without a engineer so she had to contact them to send an engineer out but they didn't charge her.

As for the YF connection were you planning on boarding the wall or are you going to be using a cement base straight to brick. I do think it would be easier to plaster and cleaner to remove first

This is the VM outside it's the L shaped section, no junction box, the other junction box and cover is YF.

So the Youfibre wire comes in under that white cover (outside) thru wall and the white cap is just another cover ( nothing connected underneath) so if I remove this cap it will just be the fibre wire. Then I've just got to be careful removing the bit of plaster and lime mortar .

I'll be repointing with lime mortar & plaster

I wonder if there is a connection under the metal plate that you can disconnect.
Up to you with the YF box if you wanna work round it and blend up to is that's your preference really, it doesn't really matter.

This is the inside pic of YF , I never watched when he installed it , is it basically a cover over the drilled hole . Or is there a connection inside too.

My information-

Re: virgin cable.
Cut the f-plug, pull it out and make a water tight connection/junction box outside where the horizontal cover is. They can reconnect it later if needed.
Alternatively, pull the cable out, Re-drill a hole nearer the vertical piece so that you have more slack for connection later.

The telephone cable can go, they will not use that again. Everything is IP based now.

If you cut the co-axial cable and subsequently rejoin virgin, they will clip the new cable outside and spoil look of the house. I doubt they will be lifting up the slabs and making good.

Re: Fibre
Open the grey box. It may have a joint in the cable. This is not always the case. If it has a joint you can disconnect it and re-connect it. Dont look at the light in the cable. The box really should have been put next to the entry hole nearer the downpipe and the black cable tucked behind/next to the downpipe instead of such a contrast against a cream wall.

Thanks for all the help.
Yes good to ask and get advice when we got virmin fitted I was not at home at the time but my wife in here wisdom said just pull that cable out to save installer driling another hole.

Yes great downstairs she is using zgemma H9 Combo and that was the aerial cable 🤣 so if bad satellite signal then nothing just relying on iptv.

Most of the old plaster is off apart from raking out the mortar joints, oh and the section with my YF cable if I gently chisel away at it do you think I'll get it off with out damage.

I'll have a look , looks like he's silicone and screwed it to the wall on mine.
Must have been half decent installer to have screwed it, but to be honest looking at it looks as if correct diamater hole is drilled it should just push into hole and anchor inself with the tags , I have seen many sly installers just drill hole and silicone coverplate on

Wasn't silicone or screwed in , a cable tie was used to connect the fibre to the clip.

Now to just repoint and plaster wall back up
