Amazon to block ‘dodgy’ Fire TV Stick apps from TODAY in new major global piracy crackdown

DODGY telly apps that allow Amazon Fire Stick owners to watch premium TV illegally will stop working from today.

Amazon has launched a major global crackdown on Fire Stick piracy that will see illegal streaming apps blocked.

The tech giant has been keeping illegal TV apps off its official Appstore for years.

But TV pirates get around this by “side-loading” apps onto Amazon Fire Sticks.

These unofficial apps – installed from outside of the Appstore – grant widespread access to premium telly, including top Hollywood movies and live sports.

But Amazon has confirmed to The Sun that it will now be blocking these side-loaded apps for the first time.

“Through an expanded program led by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a global coalition fighting digital piracy, we’ll now block apps identified as providing access to pirated content, including those downloaded from outside our Appstore.

“This builds on our ongoing efforts to support creators and protect customers, as piracy can also expose users to malware, viruses, and fraud.”

Regular Amazon Fire TV Sticks used for watching television legally won’t be affected.

The only way they can do it is through automatic updates .If you have automatic updates disabled through third party launcher and l.m settings .They cant prevent sideloading of third party apps

There already doing it manually in my area. Took them 2 months to get from one end of the, to the other. 😂

The video sounds like a advertisement in parts lol

And says people use a vpn to hide themselves, but you "don't know who is watching your traffic" is comical.

Has any iptv app installed malware to date? technically possible.

"........Ok, so I got a little guide for the above. Does come with some caveats, though.

1. This won't work with a VPN running, but might do with some tweaks to the VPN settings if available.

2. Amazon music or any other Amazon app will not work, other than Prime Video

3. You won't be able to install apps from Amazon app store, but you can do via Aptoide or another 3rd party app store.

Setup guide

Via downloader install these 2x apps if you haven't already got them

1. Adguard - Adguard_v3.6.54_mod_apkdone.com.apk

2. Aptoide (replacement app store) - aptoide-latest.apk

3. Once installed open Adguard app

4. Turn protection on

5. Go top left to the 3 lines and click on settings

6. Click on Content blocking. Make sure everything is on & create local vpn

7. At the bottom, user rules, open that

8. Turn on

9. Click on + bottom right

10. Type in ||amazon.com^

11. Click save

12. Go to settings - general. Make sure auto start is enabled. By default it should be

13. Before you exit make sure protection is enabled

14. Once you exit, go to my Fire tv

15. Click on About

16. Click on Check for updates

17. After a short while you will get a message saying "update error".

That's it, and in theory a permanent fix to stop updates coming through......."

I've tried this but it disables voice search which is useful. Maybe a better solution is to use netguard and block system updater app.
