Guide How to set up a Blade Media BM5000s

I have set up around 30 BM5000 boxes now and I am still having problems with the 7 day EPG. I am convinced it is a problem with the firmware, because it works fine with a virgin box, but once the patched firmware is loaded, it just tries to update, freezes and then the box reboots. I have tried updating through the menu-channel-EPG and also tried different categories to do the update. Nothing seems to work. I have searched various threads on this forum for a solution, but nothing seems to solve the problem. I found a comment from 'Bees' (here... http://www.techkings.org/blade-medi...up-7-day-epg-use-timer-recording-bm5000s.html) saying that the file GZ1404012_CA_23.2.r32732_SU.ssu has the 7 day EPG included, rather than having to do a separate update, which was necessary in the past.
What I cannot understand is why it works for some users and not others. The only difference might be that I am downloading from the Astra2 Pan European beam. Could that make a difference?
Any comments would be welcome!

Further to my original comments, I have now set up a new BM5000 from scratch. At all stages of the setup, the 7 day EPG was working. Then I went back to the box that had no EPG and did a factory reset. Again went through all the setup stages and lo and behold, the 7 day EPG worked!

My conclusion then is that there is a bug in the firmware that sometimes causes a problem with the EPG, but not always! My recommendation if the 7 day EPG is not working is to do a factory reset and reload the firmware. The time should download automatically from the satellite, so make sure it has done this, otherwise the EPG will not work.

Seems my new usb stick wasn't the answer after all and mine won't now update. I've reflashed the firmware and it made no difference. Tried it on different categories, channels etc and still not updating. Any ideas anyone? Very frustrating.

Additionally, the time and date was wrong. I've changed it manually but shouldn't this work automatically? Is there a setting needs changing? I can't see one

try emailing blade or on their FB page message them I've been waiting for a reply for sometime tho but maybe you might get lucky

Usually when a new set of channel lists come out the downloads either stop working or
get part way through and the box reboots.

Then the 7 day EPG is updated which may take another day or so. The same thing
will happen when downloading.

Basically if they are working on it, it goes down temporarily.

Give it a couple of days and try again.

No need to panic !!!!

Just yet !!!! lol

These are the only files on my USB stick. All should work fine; right?

The crossepg is the file that stores the EPG information.

I originally suspected a problem with the firmware, but now I think I have ruled that out. A box that I had previously set up with the EPG working. But when the box was plugged in a week later the EPG no longer worked. I am starting to think that Bees may have something and it needs some patience to get it to work. I always thought that the EPG was downloaded from the satellite channel titled 'epg data 1' (as on the BM7000), but if it is through the server, then it would need to be connected to the internet.

The box should download the time from the satellite and will show GMT (may take a little time to do this). The time can be set manually, but has to be GMT for the EPG to show the current programme.

"but has to be GMT for the EPG to show the current programme."

what you mean by this?? ive switched my GMT off because what happens is when i press 'info' on my remote on a chanel the time will be right but when I press the middle 'ok' button and the fave list appears that menu the time is an hour ahead always so it messes my epg up so i switch it off but every now n then I put it on for a min as the time lags behind a few mins daily.

Ditto mate. I just can't get the EPG to download. My box just keeps restart during parsing?! I'm on the July firmware. Another forum has an Oct 14 version I see?!
