Recover Dead Skybox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

You can improvise a Null Modem cable using two serial mouse cables joinning the wires like this:

BLUE <--> BLUE
GREEN<--> ORANGE
ORANGE<--> GREEN

And Isolating the WHITE wire.
 
I am getting this error "Sending Address Command Failed" in the STB EROM Upgrade tool.

Anyone seen this before or have some suggestions?
 
cheers for the heads up about trying a different power adapter, flashed a mates box 4 times but just kept loading to 100 then resetting, tried a different psu and bingo, all sorted :D

Please help, I did just followed all step you described
to upgrade my Skybox V8 Combo DS2-T2 via RS232 ( using USB-RS232 cable: DB9 RS232 Bafo). But, I'm facing the same problem: I didn't see the word "Done" after a few seconds.
and have tried to waiting much longer :-)

I'm using the upgrade tools dedicated for V6 V7 V8 RS232 Upgrade Tools, from skybox official support.
and I used directly connected (manual soldering) of null modem cable with 2-3, 3-2, 5-5 wiring.

I was trying to change the tools and tried many setting of Receive & Transmit Buffer setting in my COM port, but nothings.

I am stuck here, have been a week trying to solve the problem but nothing happens and need the advise.

Think I have sorted it. It booted to 100, then went NoCH, so i presume that is correct??

got a skybox f3 tried to reflash firmware through cable but get the wrong file message even when box not connected puzzled

Hi

I've read through this thread in search of a solution to recovering a friends bricked F3 but can't find a definitive answer.

When plugged in to power it shows no lights on front panel nor any Ethernet activity when patched in. I've downloaded every F3 firmware i can find and tried existing .abs backups from another box. The only life i can see in it is when i flick the power switch on after clicking 'next' on eprom loader application, as it immediately pops up the 'done' message. A few seconds later it displays the 'stb memory error' so I'm assuming it's being recognised by the comms port. I've exhausted all timing variations before switching it on as advised and tried the other tips mentioned such as initially running the 'config.bat' file before the eprom loader app. Nothing seems to let me get past this step to attempt flashing the box.

Should also note I've checked 13A fuse in plug and tried a different power cable too. When I flick the switch to on there seems to be a brief sound coming from the psu, as if power is getting to it but again no other signs of life as previously mentioned. I've also checked the boards for swollen capacitors etc but all looks normal.

I'm just not sure if all the time and effort is worth it and need to know at what point do I sack it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeh I'm pretty sure it's a clone. I've downloaded a few different erom tools from various forums including the 8m version. Some came zipped with and without the config.bat file. It's the no signs of life that's making me doubt it recoverable. Not even a flicker from the lan port.

No joy mate.

Is there anything else i need to be doing apart from running the config.bat file before using the erom upgrade tool? I've read the 'read me' doc within the folder and followed it to a t.
