Hi all

I am having an issue with my car. I haven't used it for two days and went to go out in it earlier but it would start. When I first started the car the engine started but the briefly died out - it has done this a few times in the last few months. Anyway, tried to start it again and it wouldn't start. Checked the fuses for the battery and the fuel pump but all look ok. Any advice?

I have taken a short video of the noise it is making....

The car is not even attempting to fire and can see the padlock sign flashing on the dash aswell which could point to a immobiliser fault etc only sure fire way is to get it plugged in and fault codes read if any are being stored in the ecu etc.
Also check the fuse/ relay for the fuel pump and not 100% sure if your car is fitted with an emergency fuel cut off aswell.

When you start fords dont move out of driveway to park outside or it might flood.
When you turn ignition on any wirr from fuel pump if not possibly fuel pump or burnt connection on top.

Starter motor mate, they seize up and dont fully crank not sure what reg its on. Find out where it is in your car and give it a few taps with a hammer to try dislodge the bareings inside see if that gets it going. If that fails im afraid its going to need bump starting. Put it in 2nd gear drop the clutch get car rolling about 5mph and lift the clutch and turn the key

The padlock always flashes on the dashboard for as long as I can remember.

I checked the fuse and it looked ok - not sure how to check the relay. The relay is a block with pins in it, isn't it?

I think the battery isn't charged enough, which points to alternator not doing it's job
if it starts with jump leads or after recharging the battery, the alternator may need looking at

Sometimes only doing short journeys will not put back in the battery what has been taken out from startup and lights also fan

Charge the battery and if it’s no better could be the starter motor

That would explain it. I only really drive to and from work in it which is about a 14mi round trip.

Sometimes i only do 2 or 3 miles a day and i had a problem with slow turn over so i now have a solar panel in my car charging my battery

We need to find out why your car is not starting
So charge your battery and try then

The alternator only charges the battery and that can be checked once it is started

Not 100% sure where the inertia switch is for the fuel pump on fiesta normally its on passenger side in the footwell side plastic cover or could be behind the glovebox and its usually yellow or red switch etc try pressing it to see if it clicks back into place if it dont then its not been activated.
