took an old 3.5inch 250gb hd out of a top up tv box and tried to put it in the desktop.
it has sat connectors.
unplugged the dvd drive inside the desktop and used those cables to join the hd to the motherboard.
turned pc on and started but doesn't recognise the newly added hd.
is this a bios setting, can't remember how to do it been so long since i used the desktop.
would it be easier to just buy a hd caddy and use it as an external hd for the laptop?

cheers

Never good on pcs but wonder is it a different format than pc uses so its not seen , did you go into the pc to see if it shows up at all.
I'd go for that
assuming its a windows PC, it wont see anything other than FAT or NTFS
the only other thing I can think of is the motherboard connections,
depending on how old the PC is, it may have dedicated HDD connections, rather than just be able to plug anything into any slot

if sata connection it should be ok you may need to right click on computer and go to manage disc management see if drive is present and format it

got another 500gb hd now so will give this project a go later today, think its just changing the bios to reflect what devices are connected tbh
its an old machine with xp on it so might back up the data and install win10 as well
