I only reason I think Amazon reacted was because of topics on IPTV they always mentioned firesticks

I read somewhere they reckon 60% of IPTV etc is done through firesticks
 
I doubt Google will close off their OS completely because that is what sets them apart from Apple.
It’s not impossible though but would harm their global market dominance.

It would be more likely that Kodi would come under pressure to disable certain addons from running within their media centre.
Didn't something happen about 10 - 15 years ago, XBMC changed name to Kodi and started trying to crack down on allowing certain things to work, There were a ton of forks and the Kodi forum were banning users that mentioned things that helped with addons etc.
Plex were crazy strict around the same time when they were starting up. I remember an addon developer was creating an addon for media centres and eventually an app, Plex banned it outright and Kodi argued but it got through some backdoor or something.
No idea if it's still going, looking back at it back then it was great, but ugly. NaviX I think it was called.

Kodi is open source and has never stopped developers from being able to install third party add-ons.
They don’t condone the use of certain add-ons that are used to access copyrighted material but because it’s open source they have no choice.
The code is publicly available for anyone to access and create an add-on and host it on GitHub.

Yes I know that, I mean the officlal Kodi forum could try again what it tried years ago when it didn't want the grey area/illegal attention that it had quickly grown. There were tons of forks, SPMC, MrMC, the Rockhip one (I think RKMC) among others. There are a lot of alternatives now anyway. They do try to ban addons though.

What I was mainly referring to was that it was more likely that they would come under pressure to try and disable addons than it would be that firesticks would block Kodi.
But who knows. Thinking about it now, Amazon could try and block it. 🤷‍♂️

Official Kodi developers can’t disable add-ons because it’s open source and you can add what ever add-on you like whether it be an official add-on or any third-party add-on that appears on their banned list.
They are only banned for discussion on their forums and that’s it.
Kodi forks are useful for testing add-ons and configurations that you don’t want test on your existing build.
But the official Kodi you can do what you like with it without restrictions.

Yes, I am not disagreeing with you here, I am aware of that.
My only main point was that they would be likely to come under pressure rather than the firesticks, or as well as. I stand by that. But I do also think that amazon may decide to do it themselves anyway, or use a specific fork/version.

Not sure why an open source media player would come under pressure they have no involvement in piracy.
The can’t control user who use publicly available code.
The exact same scenario with Linux which is open source and is used for illegal and legitimate purposes.
That is the nature of open source software and publicly available code.
Amazon have a choice make their devices like Roku and completely lock them down and VegaOS may achieve that but for now while they have Android devices in the public domain they can only block apps that ACE deem to be piracy apps.

Why an open source media player might come under pressure would be because it might help enable piracy.
It's probably the same reason that amazon have started taking this line and why it's likely that google might follow.
I'm thinking more along the lines of how the governments might try to push control on devices, something along the lines of how in the EU they are currently trying to push chat control for I think the 5th time, under the guise of trying to combat child sexual abuse. It isn't a giant leap to imagine that if that gets through in its current form that they could and would use it to monitor for other activities. Any software that obfuscates their monitoring would be under fire, and banning open source software that does such wouldn't be beyond their capabilities. In the US, major lobbying could probably push that through even quicker. Understanding why it shouldn't happen doesn't seem too important to many of them.
Everything is purely hypothetical at the moment so moot, but I was just replying to the idea that, in that context, Kodi would probably have to try and control it (possibly be having specific forks for specific device idk) or risk it, in that sense.
I was not thinking, nor am I thinking that somehow they would be forced to make proprietary software from a FOSS project and then lock it down, if anything I was commenting and spitballing about something that neither of us know which direction things will go in the future.
I wouldn't be in line to buy any fire devices in the near future, and likely I won't be looking at any Google TV devices either. But again, it's possible that nothing will happen except attempts to stop things.

That’s why I don’t use certified devices as uncertified devices don’t have any real restrictions other than not having licenses for official streaming apps.

Me neither. I did buy the Nokia 8000 TV box (for my mother) and it is nice, but i prefer the uncertified and the ability to have remote access (without messing around) when help is needed.
But yep, overall I prefer them anyway the freedom above all.
