Android box has arrived - now what?

ive just got back from France and my first Android box is sat here fresh from China and I'm waiting to play! OK, so what next? ive managed to get it up and running and able to watch movies/channels etc. But if I really want to get the most out of it, what should I do/install/download etc?

I got it mainly to ********** the H2S (which I will be keeping) in terms of watching movies, hoping there would be newer/better channels to choose from, plus it would be less likely to crash whilst 'hopping' from site to site. I would however like to use it to its fullest potential, so if anyone can push me in the right direction then please feel free to push hard LOL.

I would be particularly interested in sat afternoon kick offs/live football , retro gaming from time to time

I don't particularly want any non English language programmes or channels

thanks in anticipation,

Which box is it? If it's not already rooted i'd root it if possible, or see if there are any custom roms for it.

Put a few movie/tv shows apps on it, Terrarium TV, Show Box, Cartoon HD, Newest Movies HD, Mobdro are the ones i use that i find useful. Also add a few kodi addons Exodus, Football Today, NJM-Soccer, Phoenix, UK Turks

as I am a complete novice - I wouldn't have a clue how to go about any of that. it came pre loaded with a few things - inc Kodi 17 which doesn't look anything like the kodi I am used to on the laptop !

Installing APK Files

1. Enable ‘Unknown sources’

Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Security’ (name may vary depending on Android version)

Once you've done that you can install the apps i mentioned above from here https://goo.gl/MkTpFY download & install each one if you have any problems let me know.

From what i've read about your box it comes pre-rooted, if you wanted to check you can install a root check app from the playstore (you'll have to log in to download from the playstore) this app will do the job https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en_GB or use the apk file from here http://www61.zippyshare.com/v/eEJb8cCR/file.html

ok, it is rooted - there is a root system on there when ive messed about with it, though what that actually means, I have no idea? I have changed kodi 17 to kodi 16.1 and have installed ares wizard and ares build on it and it seems to be working fine, I can view movies, tv series etc. which is what I really wanted to use it for, basically to ********** the H2S. however I don't want to have something sat there that isn't being used to its full capabilities, so where to next? is it simply a case of messing about trying different builds and add ons? would a VPN (a paid one, not a free one) be 'useful' or do they bring their own problems to the party

Get a real-debrid account. No more buffering tv shows or movies. It's about £20 for a year and gives you practically everything in 1080 hd through Exodus or SALTS. Also look into something like Sportsmania for reliant HD streams of all the footy.

If you have some form of multiroom with your H2s I've installed the Samba plugin on your on it, then you can set up the download folder on your android box to the hdd that's in your H2s and you can download movies etc to watch around the house.

Hey Hopper, could really do with some help, just got a gostreamer gsx with kodi pre installed. Ive tried to follow the on line tutorial you posted to get additional repositories but my home screen looks nothing like the one in the tutorial and I cannot find the profile manager. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue as mine came preloaded with kodi 17 - I was advised to install kodi 16.1 which to be honest didn't make a lot of difference other then to the appearance. I am still new and learning but will keep 16.1 on it until I understand my way around a bit better. I used the Ares wizard to get 16.1 installed

Hi Metaldad50

Can you give me a screen shot of the screen you have.
Remember when you have followed all the steps you need to pull the plug from the unit when it finished. (Do not exit Kodi the normal way)

Try that and let me know

Hi MisterB

Most of the builds are based on 16.1 when you try to install any builds for 16.1 on to 17 you may loose the layout that's why most people will advise you to use 16.1
As of yet 17 is in Beta 4 so I would hold off till the final release is finished.
At that point I will look at updating my build to 17

Thanks Hopper,
I have managed to navigate my way around (after many frustrating attempts) and, as usual, is pretty simple once you know how!. Have installed Exodus, which is working fine, and Phoenix which is not working at the moment. I have not rebooted the unit yet so I will give that a go, thanks again:applause:

Once you have followed my setup after it has finished you then pull out the plug DO NOT REBOOT NORMALLY
Once the unit powers back up you should see it looking like this.

Have rebooted but Phoenix still not working. Going to have to uninstall and reinstall I think unless you have any other ideats?, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried the ares build, via the ares wizard? I'm new and find it seems to give me everything I need !

No haven't tried that, is it pretty straight forward?. Just seem to have trouble with Phoenix and Mobdro, can get movies and TV fine.

I find it quite easy to access/find most things. its perhaps not as flashy as some builds and will have stuff on it that you wont use I'm realising the only way to get what you want is by only installing what you want to access.

you will need to install ares wizard first, BUT that then gives you access to quite a few different builds

Thanks MisterB,
I have found an install guide for ares wizard (not done it yet) forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a build?

I believe a build is a version of Kodi where people have tweaked it. For 3pm kick off try Castaway. Install addon installer. That makes it easy to add further video addons. Its similar to ares wizard.
