Can always turn it back off once installed what you need to install but good shout mateThe play store told me Apps were not supported on my droidbox.
Steamlink was one i installed it through another source and it runs perfect.
As bazcfc has said go in to the settings on your box and make sure unknown sources is allowed.
If your worried about security use Malwarebytes on your box.
Apk for android m8what version of the ipk are you trying to install? what ipk's have you tried?
What box? make/model? android version? how long you had the box?
If you have an old box, that might be part of the issue.

All them Apps should install no problem on that box android 9 and amlogic chip, my droidbox is Android 7.1 and uses amlogic chip also.I tried STB Pro, mobdro and livenettv

I will have another mess about with it in a bit, as the missus is driving me spare and need some space before I Bury her in the bloody garden

If playstore isn't installing them, try apitode or one of the other sources available.
