SluiceBox Closed Beta Testers Wanted (Android TV / Google TV)

Posted with Admin permission.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a few beta testers for SluiceBox, a media player that I've been building specifically for Android TV and Google TV devices.

Important: SluiceBox does not provide channels, movies, TV series, playlists, or subscriptions. It is simply a media player/interface. To use it, you'll need your own Xtream/M3U/XMLTV source, a local playlist, or you can use the built-in demo source to explore the interface.

The app is designed for TV screens and remote controls—it is not intended for phones.

What you can test

- Live TV guide (EPG)
- Google TV remote navigation
- Search
- Program reminders
- Picture-in-Picture (PiP)
- Multiscreen playback
- DVR features (where supported)
- Favorites management
- Themes and UI customization
- Built-in demo mode for testing without connecting a provider

All beta testers will have access to the full Premium version during testing.

What I'm looking for

I'd really appreciate feedback on:

- First-time setup experience
- Overall UI and theme readability
- EPG navigation
- Movie and VOD browsing
- Performance, crashes, freezes, or anything that feels confusing
- Device compatibility (Shield TV, Chromecast with Google TV, Onn.)

How to join

This beta is being distributed through the Google Play Closed Testing program, so I'll need the Google account email associated with your Android TV device.

If you'd like to help:

1. Reply to this thread or send me a private message with your Google account email.
2. I'll add you to the tester list.
3. I'll send you the private Google Play download link.

I genuinely appreciate anyone willing to take the time to test the app and share honest feedback. Every suggestion and bug report helps make SluiceBox better.

Thank you!

If any of my testers want to post any issues or suggestions here, that would be great. That will let everyone else know the progress and issues the app is having.

Thank you! You guys are awesome!!!!!

Eh, what the hell.

So early testing of Sluicebox barring the issue you fixed for me. I've found it to be akin to purple Neu except for a version of it that looks very good. The VOD interface is pretty elegant. Also the various themes you offer have been surprisingly good. I'll put more details into my thoughts about it later but it seems fairly promising.

I would actually suggest people hop on and try this. I just got my new onn pro to play with so this week sluice box is going to be my tv client.

I will reporting back in detail. :)

OKAY, so. So far i’ve been playing with Sluicebox just on and off on my shield. Now, I have a new ONN, so I wanted to take the time to really daily drive it. For the next week, I am going to ride in that device using Sluicebox as my go-to playing. Now this time i’ve actually loaded in my regular playlists

My initial feedback regarding Sluicebox being a cooler version of Purple Neu still holds up. I think if we went apples to apples, I would give the win to Sluicebox; it’s a cleaner interface. That it has alternative themes to make it unique for every user is also pretty cool.

The video player itself is super snappy and the VOD system is almost as elegant as Waveos. However, actually loading in my daily drivers was a little of a pain in the butt, having to manually select each category, have it hide itself, then wait for the playlist to refresh before I moved onto the next one.

I think it’d be immensely to your benefit to make that one go a little better or give the user the ability to select multiple categories at once. On my end, it was just a tad annoying for someone with a massive playlist. I could easily see a world where they look at process and just walk away from your player.

Anywho, I will post again next week. Overall though, I do think you have something netgood here.

Thanks for the update and review. I'm confused as to what you are referring to here?

The channel organizer when you're hiding catagories. You can only select one catagory at a time.

The process currently is you go organizer, you hold okay on a channel, you select hide and the list refreshes.

For larger Playlists having to do that 20-50 times if not more will make people want to jump off a bus.
