BLADES MAKE MCSHEFFREY ENQUIRY

Gary McSheffrey on his way to Sheffield United?
Championship side Sheffield United have enquired about taking Gary McSheffrey on loan, Alex McLeish has confirmed.

The 27-year-old winger was informed several weeks ago by the Blues boss that he could join another club on loan.

The former Coventry man has found his chances limited under McLeish and has so far made four appearances this season.

And with Blues' injury list easing, McLeish feels that McSheffrey would benefit from playing more regular football elsewhere.

The player had a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest earlier this year, where he made four appearances for the Reds.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell is keen to bring in a replacement winger to boost his side's promotion challenge after seeing Blackburn loanee Keith Treacy recently ruled out with a knee injury.

"I think there's an interest from Sheffield United for Gary, but it's not quite yet been ratified by the agents or Kevin Blackwell at United," said Alex McLeish.

"But there is an interest and we'll just have to wait and see what develops over the next few days.

"We would let Sheff go out because it would let him get regular football whereas when we get everybody fit just now he's more likely to be on the bench.

"It would initially be on loan to see how Sheff does.

"But if he goes out and does really well there's options."
