Can boxes be traced?

Just wondered, can these boxes be traced at all? Or is it more a case of someone seeing the box?

BBC recently had an article on it and apparantly they know it's a widespread problem and becoming 'the norm', they also have statistics on how many boxes in use, but where have they got the information?

firstly the facts

if a sat box, your legally allowed a dish pointed to what ever sat you like to watch tv ( free tv ) and allowed what ever box you like. know in the uk as freesat, in the EU FTA
you are still allowed to connect it to the net, as some boxes have games and addons, that is still legal to use

now the trace part

ANY BOX CAN BE TRACED WHEN ITS ON A INTERNET CONNECTION

but the question is i think you should ask is " can i be traced watching tv"

now that's a yes and no!

yes as in packets (net data) is always traceable, due to ports used ect. would they trace to see if watching dodgy tv? , then that's NO unless possible on a cable box.

we also covered this if you use search weeks ago.

the above saying no as no data is sent, its wrong, what do you think a c line or n line is? it sends a request to the server to be allowed to connect each time it changes channels
