so what your saying is its cheaper to say its parked on street rather than drive, and that say you had a parent as a named driver, did you also start with 0 claims bonus.
Reason i ask is i was going to insure my sons car that he is thinking of getting but just been told that although i dont have car ins - im on my hubbys and always have been i cant use the NCB we have built up as its technically in HIS name not mine. So not sure if its best to insure the car under my name or my sons as we will both be using it.
Its all very confusing. :(:(:bang head::bang head::bang head::bang head::bang head:
well with admiral yes!, whether or not its down to area maybe?, some areas are safer than others, but i dont know how they work it out.
i simply just messed around with all the options, just things like "do you drive another car" (by saying yes means less time in your car, so less time driving, less accidents, etc)
i kept on changing small things, then getting the quote again to see if it had made a diffrence, as i said before job description, example: shop assistant and supermarket assistant come out at diffrent quotes? same as where you park the car over night, your obviously gonna say your drive as which i have done for my last insurance, but just i tried street, and came out cheaper so!
yeah i took out my own policy and added my parents, as the named drivers, they both have there own cars so both have no claims etc, but by just adding one it made a huge diffrence, 2nd named driver didnt take of much, but was something at least.
this year was my first year with 1 year no claims. before that my dad was the main driver and i was just a named driver (but this is illegal now? frontin?), it did make it cheaper to insure, but at the cost of i didnt get a no claims from it, i would rather of just started with my own policy and built up my no claims tbh if i could of gone back!!
when i first started looking around for insurance quotes about over a 1 year ago, i had some stupid quotes of 2k, for a 1.4 1999 polo! which was only really worth £900? i just looked around and managed to find other quotes for £850ish? so its worth to look around,
but as a new driver i would defently recomend admiral 10month insurance for new drivers, just builds up your no claims that tiny bit faster!
hope that helps abit!!
cant you just let you son take out a policy of his own, and then add his dad as a named driver if you dont have no claims?, some places do only ask for how long you been driving rather than no claims.
also some insurance companies, add in extras, like breakdown cover etc, so by getting rid of them that can also take down your final quote, and having a high excess, but they do come with the negatives, if you break down and have to pay out loads to get recoverd, or your car gets written off and you have to pay a lot out to cover the excess!!
