Celtic set for Emirates cup tournament

CELTIC will join Arsenal, AC Milan and Lyon to compete for the Emirates Cup 2010. The tournament takes place over the weekend of Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1, and the Hoops are sure to attract a massive support for the prestigious pre-season competiton.

Two matches will be played on both Saturday and Sunday, with one ticket giving fans access to both matches on a particular day. The kick-off times on both days are 2pm and 4.20pm.

The tournament kicks-off at 2pm on Saturday, July 31 with Celtic taking on Lyon, followed by hosts and current Emirates Cup holders Arsenal playing AC Milan.

Sunday’s fixtures also start at 2pm, when AC Milan take on Lyon, with Arsenal and Celtic bringing the competition to an exciting climax with a Battle of Britain match which is the later game.

Teams will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. The competition also rewards attacking play, with teams also being awarded one point for each goal they score.

In addition, shots on target will also be counted and will be used to decide the tournament winners if teams are level on points and goal difference.

Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said: “We’re delighted and proud to once again be welcoming three of Europe’s most high-profile teams to the Emirates Stadium for an exciting weekend of football.

“We have three big teams coming this year in AC Milan, Celtic and Lyon, who all have huge international followings and rich histories.

“I’m sure all supporters are looking forward to the weekend, which not only offers the opportunity to watch two top quality matches each day, but of course, also provides the teams with a high level of preparation ahead of the forthcoming season.”

Celtic have been given a specific allocation of tickets for both days of the tournament. Details on how Hoops supporters can obtain tickets will be confirmed soon.
