Door Hinge screws

Can any kind DIYr please tell me what size screws I need for a 4" door hinge cheers clob

I use 40mm x 4 mm does the job pefect and counter sinks flush with your hinge ... .

Yep, 1&1/2" eights,
Standard screw for just about anything, lol
If the old screws have ripped the holes out use 10s.

If the holes got to big for the screw, pack some wood in the hole (match stick, whatever)

I've got a door handle where the holes have become too big for the screws. The door handle is very loose and any movement results in the screws just falling out

I can't try the match stick fix as the actual door is very hollow (one of them cheap ones)

Is there anything else I can do to rectify the holes for the screws?

Will be one of 2 sizes depending on what type hinge it is,Fire door hinges will be 1 1/4 inch eights or if its a light weight 4 inch hinge it may me 1/14 sevens,Best thing to do is take a hinge with you and fit a test screw into it and feel the head to see the correct one which is flush on the surface,Hope it helps topchippyles

there are plastic anchors you can use but,ideally,there should be some thickness to the material they are installed to.might just be time for a new door.

Can you take out the lock and then try and fit a piece of wood ( cut to size) and glue it in place then replace the door lock/latch again.

Last time i had a center door lock removed it needed prising out and cant see any way of adding anything else inside =limited space.
Wonder if something like plastic padding or chemical metal inserted into the holes and let set and redrilled with a small bit would work.

new internal doors are fifteen quid apiece
plastic padding/chemical metal/small drillbit will be 3 times the price of a new door
make a fire, do what needs doing and bite the bullet
After that, fit the new door

That was my initial plan however I ended up getting M4 (4mmØ) POZI PAN HEAD SCREWS and used bolts on ends to tighten the door handle. Doing the job for the moment..

Just be careful not to over tighten, you still might need a small bit of wood in there to stop it squeezing in :)
