Guide Downloader removed from Firestick and suspended from Amazon - how to get it back.

The Downloader app has been temporarily removed from the Amazon Appstore (especially on Fire TV / Firestick devices).

Reports suggest Amazon suspended or pulled it after a recent update. One widely shared explanation is that the update made the app behave more like a web browser, which may conflict with Amazon’s app policies.

Neither posts do anything for members searching for this issue.

Ones titled "downloader".
The other has no title.

If you're searching Google for this issue you will not get directed to this site. This fixes that 👍.

Personally my advice is to look at other devices where you can get apps from play store or where you can still use downloader obvs no gaurntee but I doubt Google will remove it.

I think this sort of thing is going to keep happening with fire sticks to cause disruption to TV

Guys i hope it keeps banned, it will wake a lot of people up how shite these devices are

Amazon have quite clearly stated there position and they are working with various people to disrupt the TV and Streaming market.

I suppose might always be a work around but you don't want to be doing it on a regular basis

I watched Doc Scuiffy yesterday and he says if you already have Downloader their should be no trouble. Thanks for his advice and good news from Admin.

That is correct but sometimes you may have to do a reset or they have just bought a new fire stick its clearly affected many people

Google could eventually take a similar stance with their certified TV devices.

Downloader has temporarily (I hope) been removed from the Amazon Appstore for Fire TVs and Fire Tablets

Amazon has suspended my Downloader app from the Amazon Appstore for Fire TVs and Fire Tablets. I expect that this is a temporary suspension and that the app will soon be restored.

Amazon’s reason for suspending Downloader was given as: “Amazon restricts the publication of third-party browser apps on Fire tablets and Fire TV devices.” Since Downloader on Fire TVs has had a built-in browser for over 9 years, I suspect the issue isn’t the browser itself, but that the app now registers itself as a browser since the v2 release earlier this month, so that it can open links from other apps.

I’ve submitted a v2.0.2 update for Downloader to Amazon that no longer registers itself as a browser, which matches the behavior it previously had. I’m hopeful that Amazon will approve this version and restore Downloader in the Amazon Appstore. The update was submitted this morning, and it usually takes Amazon a few days to test and approve submissions.

They could but you always have options of getting tivimate and many other other apps from play store. They have not indicated any such position

The press etc have gone after Amazon devices calling them dodgy sticks etc.

This would not be problematic for a google certified device as there are so many

I don’t see it being that problematic as they are all linked by Google licensing and it is their OS that is used in certified devices.
They are phasing out android tv and replacing it with Google TVOS which is more restrictive than certified android TVOS.
They also own AOSP but it is still open source for now.
Amazon may eventually stop releasing devices with their modified AOSP in their android devices but they haven’t made any announcements as of yet.
