eBay issue

I sold a jacket I no longer wear on eBay in perfect condition like a shimmer nylon type. I listed it as pristine which it was and I maticulously went over every square inch and was satisfied there wasn't so much as a blemish on it.
It is a light grey/silver sheen so even the slightest mark would have jumped out at you. A guy then buys it and before I mailed I told him the cleaning instructions even though there on the inside tag and strictly not to iron or wash as it didn't need washing.

Before I sold I took about 30 pictures from every distance and angle and I chose the 10 best for the ad.
So the day after the guy receives it he's screaming for a refund saying there's brown marks all over it. He was requesting I send the refund right there then.
I requests photos and from our of nowhere there's like these brown like light coloured hazy stains similar like tea stains on the pockets arms etc.
I compared the shots against my photos and on my photos there not there. Tbh I didn't really need to look as I know what I mailed regardless of his pictures.

When I requested proof of these marks he said he'd have to sort it in the morning outside as the marks aren't clear indoors.

Now the other thing, the jacket creases when folded so it needs airing. My pictures show creases as it had been neatly folded in a draw for a while but his photos (all be it close up) don't show the same creasing but they are very close up.
This got me thinking, had he attempted to iron or hairdryer the creases and burnt it because that's exactly how the marks look.

As it stands he's requested a returns but I'd like to challenge it with my detailed photos. I have till the 6th accept the return.

My question is, what happens if I don't accept his return request before the 6th ? How does that pan out ?. I know it says eBay will step in after the 6th if I've not started the return but does this mean he'll just get refunded and he basically gets to keep it ?
Can I contest it and if yes how ?.

I know he's done something in 1000000% positive, or he even might have the same jacket and he's damaged his own and he's trying to send me his knackered one back.

I only sold it on eBay simply because it was perfect so I was sure no complaint would come in

You can let him open a dispute via ebay and they will decide on the given evidence.

It tends to go with the purchaser but as you have so many photos i would dispute his case.

If you loose they will refund him and expect him to return the given item.

They will chase you for the money then or take it via paypal/linked card

The guys very in your face shouty type
I want my money back right now !!

I wondered, say I challenge and lose will the refund be automatically paid out there and then or will he only get the refund once I receive the jacket back through tracking?. I'm just thinking that, if he gets his money back immediately after the decision he could potentially make it worse or not even send it back.
I think I'll call them today, I can't be rolled over and bellie tickled by some fraudster.

The one thing I do have is pictures of code off the label which I never posted so if he tries to swap it's game over

I stopped using Ebay years ago ,buyers treat it like Amazon and think they can return stuff for any reason.
I think the money is held until the item is returned and ebay can track the return.
I only recently started using Vinted, only sold 4 things so far but all good up to now.

It's all geared to the seller loosing in favour of the buyer so good luck.

I sold hundreds of Retro HiFi's. Technics etc.

Even with ultraviolet light security markings and internal initialling on the items i sent out i was forced to hand out refunds for items returned that were not mine.

Buyers swapping their faulty item for my working item.

Never won a single case.

I don't sell on Ebay anymore.

eBay is what it is, I have had one bad experience in selling over 15 years to do with a Hifi Turntable, after phoning and sending pictures of packaging to my surprise was ruled in my favour.
Don't think you could run a business though.
The terms regarding selling have improved and I have managed to make a few quid with used golf clubs and got shot of all my Fire devices.
I'm sure Vinted have back of a lorry deals , lots of brand new gear about, I got a a Evo Delongi bean to cup for £180 he was asking for £200 and I registered it on QR code for guarantee

If he opens a case, ebay will let him return it (even if you said no returns in the listing), you will then have to pay the return postage cost.

So in the end, you have lost the sale of the item, the initial postage cost and the return postage cost and you are then left with a worthless item to boot.

They will refund him, as soon as the item is marked as delivered back to you (even though they wouldn't have paid you until 2 days after he received the item).

You can dispute it, but chances are they will ignore everything you say or send and refund him anyway as according to them, distance selling regulations apply even if you are a private seller (which is bullshit).

I won't ever sell on ebay now, and even think 2 or 3 times before I use it to buy anything either these days.

They have changed the when you get paid now to when it's posted! and not 2 days after delivery, still a minefield for sellers though

True but better than the 10% plus they used to take off you, Vinted use the protection thing as well
They just went from 1 extreme (buyers getting shafted by sellers) to the other (sellers being shafted by the buyers).

Sellers paying 10% fee, to buyers paying the "buyer protection fee".

They need to find something in the middle, but it's never going to happen. They are not interested in protecting anyone, they just want the money.

Agree but I have received every penny I have asked for, I was beginning to think how do they make money now? When they changed 10%
plus Vat that was a good model for them.
The problem is when it goes wrong!
Some changes have been made to postage now with some sellers taking the piss!

eBay will 99.9% shaft you like the buyer is doing!

Accept the return and when it arrives, process the refund and then report the buyer OR once you have it back, contact eBay with your evidence. I suspect they might refund the buyer and in a rare instance absorb the cost so will not deduct the money from you.

Yeah ebay is notorious for liars who claim items weren't delivered etc
Provide all your evidence, every photo, what you think has happened and leave no stone unturned.
They probably will rule in favour of the buyer because they always tend to but least you know you've done everything possible

I had I think 5 days to accept the the return so I bit the bullet and let him sweat till day 5. In that time I've received 3 messages from this guy ranting & raving as to why I've not accepted the return and I'm this I'm that but no abuse more angry.
I'm resounding to the fact I'm £170 down because this prick screwed the jacket up trying to get creases out. I can't think of any other reason why the brown marks were there because his refund flew in giving him no time to wear it.
Just out of interest I looked at his Facebook profile. He's wearing similar style jackets in a few different pictures and the one thing I noticed my jacket wouldn't fit him.
When I advertised it I put pictures of the pit to pit , length, shoulders so he's either selling on a dealer or he took a chance on the sizing and it's too big, or he's sending me a knackered exact same jacket back.
He then had a rant about:

"I'm in all the groups on Facebook selling clothes I'm well known in these circles and if your there I'll make sure you never sell another jacket again".

I told him go ahead and fill his boots,

The inside label is unqiue to this jacket but I never posted pictures of the label I kept them. If the label doesn't match my pictures when it's returned and he's swapping I won't let that go, that's blatant in your face ripping me off something totally totally different meaning he bought it to change it not bought it then f**ked it up, that doesn't go down well with me and this will escalate pretty quickly if that's the case
