Fire tv stick update?

I've been looking recently to buy a fire tv stick to run kodi but everywhere has just said sold out or unavailable. Yesterday currys and Amazon both are now giving the option of buying one. So I popped into currys and the guy behind the counter said they are still waiting on there delivery as there is a new update on them to stop kodi running on the stick. Does anyone know anything about this or is the guy full of bull...t. I don't want to order one only to find out I cannot run kodi on it.

Not heard anything about updated ones preventing kodi being side loaded. They're in stock in Argos if you want to get one sooner just in case the guy is right
 
None in stock at any of my local argos or tesco etc. I might give it a week or two and see what materialises

I got the Amazon Fire tv, but yeah they auto update so if a fix for kodi comes out there ain't no stopping it.

Ive not personally tried it out so cannot comment on the success or not though.

I looked at that the other day funny enough, but it ain't a simple ,don't update. Gotta know what your doing

Kodi will not be blocked on the fire stick as it's still an Android app. The most likely thing that updates will do is prevent the device being rooted.

Kodi works fine on the new update. My advice would be to stick to 15.2 as the android 5.1 and firestarter are a pain in the arse.

16 works fine but I find adding shortcuts and backgrounds are a bit hit and miss and you have to mess about to get stuff to sideload. Screensaver doesn't appear to work on 16 and also pausing a stream to let it buffer seems to chuck you out after a short while but this is ok on 15.2

i purchased one last week and having trouble installing kodi 16 from kodi.tv/download link. I'm going through es explorer and when i browse to ARM downloand on link nothing happens. Also I tried to install firestarter via qr.net/firetv and that is not working either... :(
 
I put kodi 15.2 on then updated it to 16 through firestarter updates

I use adb fire to load kodi onto my firestick. There's a great thread on this forum explaining how to do it. Search for side load kodi, that should bring it up
 
I upgraded to kodi 16 on the weekend and had no issue with adb Fire. Like I said find the thread I mentioned and follow the guide, I'm using taptalk so unable to post link to it myself. Any issues post on that thread and we can help where we can.

A lot of people are complaining that the Arm link is not clickable on the Firestick. I worked around it by downloading the Kodi Arm file on PC and uploading it to my Dropbox. Then set up your Dropbox account on ES Explorer and download it from there.
 
The latest update allows you to open Kodi from the apps section of amazon on the firestick. Personally I use firestarter, you can program it to start kodi automatically when you boot your firestick. You can even use it to download the latest version of kodi even if kodi isn't already installed on the stick.

yes i use firestarter too but the i am trouble installing firestarter and kodi on my recently-purchased firestick
