FireTv & Mac address

Maybe this is a silly question but if I don't ask I won't know.

I running smart TV app or perfect IPTV app on the Firetv.

However I trying to test a couple of providers to ensure as much as possible I'm getting best for buck.

Some providers ask for Mac address and some just provide a URL with username/password within the URL. So question is why are some asking for Mac address as maybe I'm paranoid but I'm reluctant to give it out.

Hopefully someone can shed some light and make me less paranoid.

the mac address is useless to anyone who wants to do dastardly deeds so you don't need to worry about giving that out, there's thousands of them if you search via google

Some suppliers don't want you to know the server address because they don't know who you are so they upload it themselves

they don't actually send anything to the mac address, they pair the mac address with the m3u - in other words, they allow that address to connect to that m3u, nothing more

Appreciate the reply which explains it perfectly, means I'm now in the market for subs that work with two Mac's if I don't want the hassle of switching from upstairs/downstairs. Not that that's an option with supplier looking for Mac to begin with.

Cheers
