Freesat and IPTV amalgamation

Hi all

long time member of the site and used to be HUGELY into the old Technomate boxes with using the old N Lines (no idea if that's still a thing!) Ok I've finally sacked off Sky and I was hoping someone was doing the same as i want to do. I'd like a box (multi tuner) where I can mix Freesat channels with IPTV ( for example if I select ITV then it uses freesat but lets say i select a movie channel it flicks seamlessly to IPTV) all of this with an EPG and menu system that's near as damn to the SKY interface!

In terms of box cost I was thinking sub £400 but obviously if you guys suggest box X for £500 and its an all singing one Id be happy to push out further!

Many thanks in advance

With that type of money look at the Gigablue & VU+ FBC Tuner boxes.

These FBC Tuner boxes coupled with a Unicable II LNB will give you 8 tuners 2 Hardware 6 Virtual that combination would have no restriction when it comes to recording and viewing at the same time.

With the right plugin you can set up a custom mix so Fressat would be via the tuners and anything that would be encrypted via IPTV. Im no expert on that but we have many that are on this forum that would be able to direct you.

This is something I keep meaning to look into doing

I'll have to read the guides here

I basically wanna use my old sly q dish and buy a box.

Thank you for your replies! So I assume an easier way would be to have a simple Freesat bouquet and the IPTV as thier own individual bouquets (movies etc). I seem to remember an IPTV provider on here that supplied an enigma setup script that you basically ran and it set up the whole thing (sky skin etc)

Many thanks again guys. I'll get to swotting up on the best images for Gigablue and VU+ boxes!

Reading online when swapping the LNB on a dish used for Sky Q, putting a Hybrid LNB in its place am I right to assume this would give you the best of both options?
It would but if you do buy a receiver with FBC tuners your missing out on the benefits of the tuner combined with a Unicable LNB.

Of course FBC tuners will work with the Hybrid LNB but you wont get the 8 tuners you would with a Unicable LNB or have the ability to split off the single feed from a Unicable LNB into other receivers.

Did you get sorted? I am looking for the exact same set up

I'm looking for a similar setup, but have a much smaller budget. I have changed my sky dish to a standard LNB and have an old freeview receiver but want to amalgamate my IPTV (currently watching on a firestick) so could anyone recommend a budget enigma box that can handle satellite and IPTV? Probably got no more than £100 to £150 to spend and don't need to record.

Octagon SF8008, you can stick Wilobuild on that too.

Hi Everyone,

I'm in the same boat having just chinned off sky after 25 years of them bleeding me dry.

Hoping the experts here may be able to impart some good advice

I'm looking for a new box hopefully something all on one that can do IPTV, FTA sat recording with a decent UI and EPG. If possible iPlayer/ITVX/4OD/5/Disney+ too (similar to the Freeview aura box but for satellite?. Think I might be asking too much here though.

If that's not possible will probably settle on a 4k combi or twin dvb-s2 that can at least do IPTV and FTA and be able to record both. Happy with enigma2...apart from the recording options...unless there's now the option for a proper series link?

Is the Octagon SF8008 combi still strong? Any views on the newish Zgemma H17

Any ideas at all please? I've been out of this game for too long 😉

Recording FTA, either freeview or freesat will require an enigma2 box.
All enigma2 boxes can also run iptv, recording it is hit and miss but all the main channels, entertainment, sport, sky movies etc all have 7 day catchup meaning you don't need to record it.
Series, box sets and movies are all 'on demand' meaning you can watch a full series over two nights or even one if you've got enough beers in the fridge.
On demand content can be watched any time you like and as many times as you like.

I use a H7 for freeview via an aerial and iptv via XE plugin.
Never had a day's trouble with it in six years

Thanks @pabloescaban. I just dug out my H5.2S from all those years ago, and loaded up OpenAtv, couldn't believe I remembered the flash and setup process or that Kiddacs Jedi maker is still available. It's fine playing IPTV and sat but for some reason when trying to record an IPTV stream ends with a circle of doom...do you get the same on a more powerful box?
