Help setting up box with Cat5 connectors and magic eye please

Hi All,

Here goes :

A friend of mine has built a new house and has his tv already mounted to wall.

The problem is that he only has coax cables and cat 5 cable from his sky hd box which is located under his stairs by way of magic eye.

Any way i am looking for a solution to somehow run his new zgemma h.2s which will be located under his stairs next to his router and old sky hd box.

The magic eye is currently underneath his tv and he also has a modulator under the stairs.

Question really is what does he need to avoid running new cables under flooring etc.

Oh yes and the sat cables are also under the stairs.

Dont really want to be using webif as he is not the brightest of people lol

Many thanks

Think you are out of luck mate....

This sounds like the old SKY set-up I had running to a second TV giving the option of watching and controlling the sky box via the RF2 out coax.

The magic eye over coax wont work, it needs hdmi or component out from the zgemma and the remote control part is not going to happen either...

Might only be option of using video senders but they are a bit flakey...

I had the same issue. Im using a firestick now with dream player app, works fantastic

The only way you could get it to work through the RF cable is by buying a RF modulator.
So then you connect your component cables to the zgemma and then to the modulator and then will give out a RF signal for the TV to tune into.
But the picture won't be great I think it's just slightly less that 720p and then you can change the channels by using the Android app.

some interesting info on this subject but as steveuk23 says, the picture isn't going to be great. I think 720p is pushing it a bit, more like 480, watchable but not really great for the main TV, although must be used to that anyway if been using sky like that....

RF Modulators

Ok does he have a Cat5E cable running from under the stairs where the receivers are located to behind the TV or is it just Coax cables behind the TV on the wall

Thanks for replys
he has both coax and cat5 so think he is somehow wanting to use that method rather than modulators?

Use the Cat5E and buy some HDMI over Cat5E extenders with remote eye function

This is the best picture solution for over a single cat5E connection and way better than RF modulators

Great suggestion this
I totally forgot about them lol

Would there need to be a power supply at TV on wall as there is not one as everything has been but behind false wall ?

Afraid so you need another power supply for the HDMI extender one on each end, Must have something there now as how does the TV operate

Not cheap (circa £175) but you can actually get HDMI modulators (Edision do one at the price point I mention - others are more expensive) which take HDMI in and encode it as an HD digital channel to send over an existing coax installation. This means you can get the original digital HD quality on the TV unlike the more commonplace RF modulators you see which just encode the composite AV output on an analogue signal. These HDMI modulators are useful if you're doing a biggish multiroom setup and plan to have, or already have, a TV distribution system in place. They don't have the 'magic eye' functionality built-in so you need to add that as well (another £20 or so).

So what you require, satellite over existing coax, is possible without sacrificing any quality or functionality but not cheap:

Judgement call as to whether to do this or go for the same functionality but lesser quality (analogue encode) as others have suggest. That can be done with this at 1/5 the cost:

Otherwise you're running new cable.

Never seen these before they look quite good.
I'm guessing the emitter connection has to be in front of the zgemma/sky hd box so that it picks up the signal

These look ideal for an extension I need to add to my set, any experience of the £25 one on eBay. Is it too cheap to be true?

I wired my house with the intention of using hdmi over Cat(6). So I ran a few cable runs to each location. I currently using a Neet Hdmi over cat6 extender with IR capabilities. This is the twin cable version (2 x cat5/6 required). I have a zgemma connected, and the device on the TV end needs no power.

Neet have now got a single cable version:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0...3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=Neet+Cables

But I believe that product does require power. I think it's 5 volts, so you may be able to use a USB to 5v adapter from your TV. Neet's support is great, so you can ask the question.

The two cable device I have, has been working flawlessly for a couple of years now, using various hdmi input sources.
