Hi I'm going away for a few weeks. I've asked someone to look after the house dogs but I don't trust them myself. He is known as a dealer with depts but family members trust him but I don't.

Is there a trusted CCTV option to track what is happening inside and outside without him complaining or knowledge? Thanks

Edit I won't have 24 hour access to internet just a few hours a day

I've probability left this late. We leave Monday 28th so anything pickup from Argos or Curry's etc will be better or Amazon fast track. I don't mind paying extra. We was going to do kennals for the dogs but I don't think they will cope (two staffs bitch is a drama queen without her routine) Even if we did Kennels they would know we are away now.

I was told about this at the last minute as they know I would be ok to put the dogs in the kennals but they don't like that idea.

The lad isn't a bad kid tbh but I know he owes a lot of money to the wrong people and sells for them. Me being me thinks he will smash my window saying I have been robbed. I don't have insurance for most items plus I would loose digital online accounts (these are on a kill switch) with no chance of recovery

Last option is hide any valuables (electronics and jewelry plus old currency) at another house

It's a flooded market but I've always used Hikvision more of a budget range but decent enough.

There's millions of Chinese cameras claiming to be 4K and their not. If you can go for POE that's my only advise as your choice will be wider plus your choice will be based on your budget

I have concerns/issues with cameras in my home from a privacy point of view. Most cameras will come with a way to access the camera through their software. It's usually streamed through them and they also save videos to the cloud for you to view at your convenience.

How serious do these companies take their security? I don't like the idea of images from inside my house being saved on someone else's platform, which is a potential target for a malicious attacker to go for. I also don't think these companies will be as secure as they think.

I'm a big fan of Ubiquiti hardware and run some switches and access points in my home. I have looked at their self-hosted video surveillance options in the past. I live in a city centre and thought about going this route for added security. The privacy does come at a cost however. It's not just the cameras you need to buy, you also need to purchase the hardware to record onto. But, the data stays in your home and you can still access it remotely. Privacy does come at a price. I just do not trust cheap/no-name Chinese cameras not to be compromised.

This is also a concern of mine what happens inside my house should stay in the house. I dont want to end up on Pornhub  The worlds not ready.

I would like a doorbell and one internal camera that records to my nas drive and i can view on my phone from anywhere without subscription i dont want recording or footage going anywhere.

Seemed like such a minefield i gave up looking for a while. I will get beck to it.

I can't see you being a modern day John Curtis Holmes somehow mate he was a porn star 🤣

I think most people will forget about privacy over convenience and cost. This is fine and everyone is allowed to choose whatever path they wish. There's a reason I'm not on social media and it amazes me how much personal information people willingly give up for free. This can be used in all sorts of different ways if you were a bit of an evil person!

Your home SHOULD be the most private part of your life. I'm not prepared to sacrifice this and if this means I need to pay more for peace of mind, so be it.

Eufy is a decent brand, not sure about the recording to a NAS, but they have a storage device which you can connect to your network, then the camera and doorbell record direct to that, no subcription required.

Security= Simple use a hard wired system and all your data is on the hard drive in your property. l have 8 cameras a few of them have been in use for 14 years or so with never a problem.
