Hours of video on 320GB HDD

How many hours of recording could i get on an 320gb HDD when using it with a satellite receiver.

I recorded 2 1/2 hours of sd yesterday and it used up 5 gig on my usb. Any reason why it would use so much if its supposed to be 1 gig per hour? I've got Zgemma h2s. Thanks
