I would watch IPTV without a VPN

Apologies if wrong thread but nearest one I could link it too.

Before Sunday (Yesterday) I would watch IPTV without a VPN.
Virgin would send a signal an hour before a PL or CL football kick off, so if 12:30 Saturday kick off, it would be no picture at circa 11:45am. Then I would put VPN on and its fine.

Yesterday I needed VPN all the time. initially I thought it was cricket WC Final, but they never send signals for any other sport than football.

Today (Monday) same thing. Nothing works without VPN. No major sport in the morning right!

I'm in the East Midlands and had Virgin sending signals since April 2024, 1 hour before KO time. VPN tuned on and its fine.

You will laugh but I use Proton VPN as free and only needed it for football. However that's getting cumbersome as servers are rammed. I use Netherlands. Finding you have to change server within Netherlands every 3/4 hours. If I need a VPN all the time, perhaps need to buy 1.

Any recommendations? Last year I used someone from TK for Surfshark for 6 months.

I guess you are not using Virgins dns and are using some other like Cloudflare Google etc?
Have you asked supplier for a different URL to try?
Maybe your existing URL has been blacklisted by your ISP.

Hi mate.

Good idea. Tested on phone. Use Smarters on phone to check as saved 4 logins and fastest way to check.
I checked and have 4 URL's, 1 works on VM wifi.

Will I lose all Tivimate favourite list if I log in with this?

You might want to go back and check your Parental and Virus protection settings. Seems like Virgin went on a rampage changing these settings for some users.

Keep an eye on Quidco and top cash back , they often have deals on Nord and Surfshark where you can get over 80% cash back

No you shouldn’t if you change the server address in Xtream Codes parameters for that playlist and obviously if it is the exact same service.
Make a back up first, obviously

Top cash back doing 80% on surfshark.
If you set it to Jersey to avoid tax. Basic is £37.
Minus the cashback it's around £7.50 for a year 🥳

If VM hit 3 URLs, only a matter of time till last remaining one gets nuked too.
Making a new favourite list of over 100 channels is a pain too.

Easier to keep VPN on always. What put me off was the channel switching was obviously slower with VPN.

Do you change VPN server every day or just leave it till you notice lag and change?

Have you considered looking around for a new ISP?

As far as I'm aware, the URL blocklist only applies to the "big 5" ISPs - BT, EE, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin.

I've been with a FTTP ISP via CityFibre for a couple of years now and not experienced any blocking.

Here's my penneth worth on Surfshark v NordVPN
I have both simply because at the time I paid about 40 each for over 2 years.
So Surfshark for VPN, 90% of the time it's fine till the dreaded Sat or Sun Mon live game or midweek CL. I started to get intermittent freezing. I changed the country few other things, cleaned the cache, stopped other background apps but Surfshark would random freeze.
I then stopped and started NordVPN and although I still got the very odd glitch every 5 minutes it was 10 times worse.
If your server has HECV channels try them mine works better using these on a match day

HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding), also known as H.265, is a video compression standard used with IPTV (Internet Protocol television) to deliver high-quality video over a network more efficiently. It significantly reduces the required bandwidth compared to older codecs like H.264, allowing for better streaming of 4K and other high-resolution content while maintaining high image clarity.

why not try the paid proton vpn, its a decent vpn, the bandwidth is better than the free version. You can pay monthly, and if you think a vpn is the answer you can decide on a longer subscription with proton or a different one.

I would try and change your DNS server ,as suggested, either on the stick or the router (if you can). Your isp might be blocking via their dns server.

I use quad9 dns and proton vpn.
