Installing HDU

Hello all.

advised to install a hdu to boost signal, i have a cable feed that comes in connected to a 3 way splitter ( one to modem and the other two to boxes), got myself an ASH-40P.
Can anyone advise on installation, looking at it the power feed is top left but top right rf in is not a sat connector or male aerial connector

I think you can add a barrel connector and it will accept it. The picture on specs shows an isolator connected to it.

Aah okay, it just looked like aerial lead, I'm sure mine looks like 2 core speaker wire
You can just use the same type of RF adapter that you use on receivers on RF in then.

F-plug and belling lee connections.

I am sure that a f-plug barrel connector will fit in. A male belling lee connector wouldn't work. Can you post a picture where a male f-plug end did not fit?

The barrel connector is not secure and has no thread to fix it in, i'm pretty sure a female to sat will sort it

They are pushfit, so no need for thread. Just like some of the cables Virgin send. I don't thnk you pushed the it firmly enough, but best you await a definitive answer from sone who has the device.

Forget the Belling lee adapters for now.

Did the female RF coax to f connector work mate? I’ve bought one of these units also and have the same issue as you. I’m thinking female coax will work just not got round to buying it yet

Ordered one to try. should be here this week

I bought the connector today from screwfix and it doesn’t fit. It’s a weird looking connection on the hdu. I have attached a couple of pics anyone idea what this is called? The F type to female coax is too tight to push in

It looks like the connector on one of the loop cables supplied with an Xtrend ET8500.
You push a male f-type connector type fitting into the socket and then use the relevant connector.

For example, if you use the type below, you can just use a standard f-type satellite connector

Yeah thanks mate managed that there then took the male from another box and plugged it all up but the hdu didn’t make any difference to my SNR level at. It’s always 73-77%, il get a coupler and see if that works better maybe I’m just not getting good connection using the female to male

If there's an in-line attenuator in the white box where it comes into the house, try removing it and joining the cables directly together.

I can confirm a straight sat coupler works, when i tried it yesterday i did not want to force it in as i was worried it would snap, pushed it in tonight and its a solid fit
