Intel Nehalem News: Release of first Core i5 chip

It is pretty much a year since Intel launched their Nehalem microarchitecture chips, Intel have now released their first Core i5 chip for mainstream PCs, these chips should be more power-efficient and faster then its close competitors.

We have seen Nehalem chips in desktop PCs previously, however these were never in ‘affordable’ computers, they were more aimed towards high end gamers and other high end users such as video and audio editors.

The chip that Intel have released is the Core i5- 750, this is a quad-core processor which runs at 2.66GHz, in total it has an 8MB cache and draws 95 watts. When purchased in volume the chip will set you back $196.
