Not sure if this is the right place but please move it if not.

Im struggling to understand the difference between cable and IPTV.

Ive used a few iptv providers now and Im not that impressed, however its better than not having the channels at all..

Ive noticed the cable sub prices are a bit lower but dont understand the difference.

They both come down the fibre line? if so is it as easy to install cable on my STB as is the iptv and the cline i use for the satellite channels?

If anyone can explain this to me I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Cable only comes from virgin in the UK and you need a active cable connect too work

IPTV will work on anything from mobile connect to your home internet. Even if it's sky bt or virgin

Cable is your better choice unless you want world wide tv

to view cable channels you need a box with a cable tuner AND have an active VM cable coming into the house.
If you have a sat only box, you can only get iptv and sat via internet and a sky dish, but not cable channels

Iptv can usually work out way cheaper then cable. Can come with the same issues at times with things like weather, bandwidth issues.

Cable usually have a server dedicated in your region where as iptv don't always.

I have found cable to be expensive for what it is at times especially with all the foreign call centres.

If you have issues with the iptv service you buy u can usually get it fixed pretty quick
Setups are fast. Most can take between 2-20 minutes to setup. Iptv solely relies on internet connectivity so ensuring you have good speeds and stuff can be essential depending on the stream quality you are using.

It is a bit confusing for me as both sky and bt offer cable which obviously comes down the line..

Ive got infinty2 atm that runs around 80mb during the day and I've seen 104mb during the night! im only 50 yards away rom the FO cabinet so its always rock solid.

You can only get unofficial cable (using a cable box and paying about £70 per year for a cable sub) if you have VM BB coming into your house. Any other provider (bt, talk talk etc) will not work

I think virmin cs has gone off today so the only option is IPTV. You will need a VPN to get footie as providers by law restrict streaming when footie is on

It's not gone off today, I'm watching movies in HD right now, just watched Champs league live and in HD as well

If your unofficial cable line CS goes down you can still access FTA channels if it's a twin tuner ie sat & cable box
With iptv on mag once server line expires you get nothing
That's a bad disadvantage with mag boxes thx
