Is the Starview HD combo any good

I've had one now for just over 3 weeks and so far so good. I've got both satellite and cable running with relative ease.

Satellite
The satellite part is running with an infinity usb card reader with my satellite subscription over the lan with no problems. It was actually very easy to setup which I wasn't expecting at all!

Cable
The cable was also very easy to setup although I had some problems until the latest firmware was released about a week ago. Not using the UStream feature at the moment.

Streaming
Again the streaming server was very easy to setup. I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t work with my existing DLNA mediatomb media server.

Network
I've just got the network properly setup as I was using the ethernet bridge that is built into a squeezebox to connect the box to the lan. Now I've got two wireless n routers setup in repeater mode (cheap at £34 for 2). The benefit of this over something like an ethernet to wireless bridge is that it has all four ethernet port available so I can get my PS3 and Starview plugged into the faster wireless n network.
Only thing I can complain about is that the EPG can be a little erratic at times even when doing a full EPG scan.

Got mine from starviewstore. They do a price match which meant i got mine for £189 delivered with a free hdmi cable. The guy also said that the site he was price matching with was selling an older model so I got a good deal!. Which may or may not be true.
But overall very good service and quick delivery.

is it a case of use the update, plug it in. Then you get all the channels or do i need to subscribe to a cardshare.
thanks

depends on your area. some areas have switched to n 3 already. if so then you will need a network connection for your box. there is a lot of talk about the starview server used by ustream (or istream if your in ireland) giving you a 1 year subscription. hopefully by the time it runs out the fix for n 3 will be available on starview.

HI every one Can you just connect a dish to the new starview hd combo or do you need a cardshare card, if so what are they and where do you buy one, any ideas on what type of dish to get and where from and a rough price thanks:

Hello hello, another newbie here! just been reading what i can about this box... but few questions for ppl - ive just recived my new vermin card - if I were to buy one of these boxs will it work for the channels i currently recive on my eurov0x? also its a satellite reciver... i dont have a dish on the house - would i require one or does it recive via the net? plese help my newbiness!! thanks

it may pick up all of the channels but a lot of them will be scrambled and some of them will be frozen, unless I have done something wrong on the set up.

marcbriston, if you are in the UK, your provider will be going to Nagra 3 soon, which will render any box obsolete at the moment. if your eurovox has lost its channels, then your provider has already gone to Nagra 3

Wheelo - still reciving channels but will be changing within the next few weeks / months as I have recived my new veiwing card.... will the starview hd box allow me to gain access to the channels again via the net or will it too become useless?

or purchase the starview 6 which works on cardshare/ kryptview also do a version👍
im guessing they are not hd ready boxs?

yes they are H D boxes but I would not recomend them:gah:

that is the starview hd combo box

err.... ok im confused ... are you not reccomending the staview hd combo or the starview 6? - what would you reccomend, ive currently got a eurovox 7000hd but just recived my new veiwing card last week so im guessing my veiwing time is very limited now....

I would not recomend the starview hd combo box, it seems to have a lot of frozen and even more scrambled programs on, unless I have not set it up right:doh:. I would not buy one again if I had the choice.
