Just ordered zgemma h2s(total newbie) couple of questions..

Hi guys, I've finally ordered a zgemma h2s from zgemma after looking at them for a whilst. I've always been fascinated by these "sly" boxes. I've been offered boxes in the past but thought, hey I might aswell give it a go myself from scratch.
I've got a few questions I would like help with though?
1. Is the current whoosh build for the sly skin the v5 one at the top of this forum? And when it updates will it update automatically or will I need to reflash or just update the box manually?
2. Which USB hdd for recording is recommended for these boxes as I've seen a few folk have problems with certain ones. I'd like as much space as I can but I just want a simple one tbh. I will only need maybe 10hours of recordings...
3. I'm going to use an older laptop for downloading the skin. Windows 7 I think. Will this be okay? Also will this be okay for when I do a file transfer on say FileZilla for a subscription, when I eventually get round to it..
4. If I follow the whooshbuild for sly skin, Does the epg update itself on the sly skin, or will I have to download it daily for full epg?

1. Yes it is - WB Config tells you if there is an update and you follow the instructions, easy as.
2. Anything named and as large as you can afford - I use a 250GB Seagate.
3. Win7 is fine, you only d/load Basebuild from Woosh's site which is accessed through the downloads section, topof the page. - Yes for FileZilla.
4. Update time is set to auto in the build, can't remember what time but you can change it in settings.

One more thing, I don't know if I'm just being stupid or not lol. But on the whooshbuild v5, I take it all the steps from say whooshbuild 3 base build is all included? V5 just makes a easier? That's what it looks like to me or should I follow all the steps from whooshbuild 3 but upload v5 lol sorry for being a pest!
 
Thanks for asking these questions, saved me duplicating them, I'm a total newbie myself just ordered a H2S and had exactly the same questions, there seems to be a good walkthrough that I came across on YouTube called Wooshbuild setup guide Zgemma H2S by someone called Head Melted, good luck ..

Just follow these instructions for Wooshbuild from here (New Basebuild) - Zgemma-Star - Downloads - TechKings , you'll be fine.
 
Hi sparky.if u want trouble free recordings get a 128gb sandisk usb stick from currys £23 I've had a few of these now and lots of recording space and no probs I think 1hr hd recording uses about 5gb 1 hr sd recording about 1gb if I'm not mistaken so even 128 stick will give u 20+ hrs.i had lots of probs with powered ex hdd going corrupt see my posts

I was purchasing 500gb ones on eBay for around £30 in auction obviously used at that price.was ok to start with then went corrupt after some months.out of 6 hdd 3 went corrupt all on different h2s boxes.1 I revived through Linux format program gparted other 2 sold spares or repairs.

I have set up loads for friends and family without any probs,Look for a good warrenty and you will be fine
 
Got a Toshiba 1tb from currys the other week really cheap just plugged it in no messing around. Agree about getting a decent warranty/line try a few and your be fine
 
Buying second hand hard drives is always a big gamble
I use a Toshiba canvio 1tb drive and it works fine
 
Thanks again spyke, but that link isn't working for me. Any chance you could check it for me, I'm on an iPhone so maybe that's the problem?
Thanks bangloud I will go for the one you suggested as it's tried and tested and I don't wanna be effing about all time, just want something that will work with minimum hassle
 
Click the downloads tab at the very top of this page then click on ZGemma Star in the second box (Satellite). Scroll down a bit and you will see Wooshbuild V5 - Click that and it will take you to another page then click the download button to go to Woosh's site to d/load Basebuild.
