Newcastle United footballer Nolberto Solano has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Police arrested the 35-year-old Peruvian international at a house in the Gosforth area of Newcastle in the early hours of Monday.
The arrest follows an allegation of rape made by a 22-year-old woman from the city.
Northumbria Police said inquiries were ongoing and that the player had been released on bail.
Solano, 35, spent eight years at Newcastle in two spells and has also played for Aston Villa and West Ham.
He completed his move to Leicester City in January.
