Newcastle United footballer Nolberto Solano has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

Police arrested the 35-year-old Peruvian international at a house in the Gosforth area of Newcastle in the early hours of Monday.

The arrest follows an allegation of rape made by a 22-year-old woman from the city.

Northumbria Police said inquiries were ongoing and that the player had been released on bail.

Solano, 35, spent eight years at Newcastle in two spells and has also played for Aston Villa and West Ham.

He completed his move to Leicester City in January.

paper never refused ink, I personally think that no names, either alleged victim or alleged rapist should be released until there is someone found guilty.
A good case in point is jack tweed who was found not guilty, yet his name is all over the papers, yet hers isn't.
also, there have been cases of false allegations made and again the man has been named.
