Windows 7 Microsoft ends Windows 7 support: What should you do?

Ive got a mac with both os & windows 10 on it, once you strip down windows 10 to look like windows 7, then it looks better, i have to say that windows 10 configuration is now starting to look like a mas OS system, and may i say, its for the best, as the macs OS was always far superior to windows, so, windows is now getting there....IMHO

I used microsoft essentials on 7..It cant be used on 10...Windows 10 comes with windows defender..Any opinion on defender?..Any better antivirus programme that would be better, and not slow down the system...Although I have read suggestions that defender slows things down...But I havent found rhat...

And macOS has been copying Linux/Ubuntu for years, not surprising really as Mac uses the same *nix basic kernel, just messed about with (badly) and they charge you a hefty sum for the privilege.

Bill Gates is one of the most astute and wealthy businessmen who has ever lived, yet decided to give software away for free which would cost upwards of £70 a copy. How did he get that one past the board of directors

The only logical assumption is because Microsoft can make more money than that by giving it away.

Windows ten spies on your every movement on every one of the machines you sync to it. It has a record of your every movement and key stroke from when you turn your first device on to when you retire to bed and everything in between. A targeted advertising profile is made of you using data points to recoup much more than £70.

If you think that is nonsense consider the Cambridge Analytica scandal where C.A admitted to having 5,000 data points on more than 200 million American people, most obtained from Facebook.

The Constitution of the United States is built on loopholes and clever legal rhetoric . When Microsoft says 'We do not sell any of your data to other companies', you might feel reassured. A hidden meaning is 'We give away all of your data to other companies we also own or have interests in'

The VW/Audi exhaust emissions scandal also showed us the depths big companies will go to to hide what is really going on IMO.

i use eset internet security does not slow down my pc

also
if you download windows 10 now and set it up, you now have to sign in with your microsoft account.
before you could do this with an offline account, that option is no longer there when setting it up

Go to Windows 10, it is strange that in 2020 people still use Windows 7
Everyone can upgrade to windows 10 absolutely free, through the Microsoft program "Media Creation Tools"

i think windows 7 is the best operating system microsoft has ever made im not a fan of win 10, dreading when i have to upgrade

I'm with you on that! I'm running Windows 8.1 but I've done everything I can think of to make it look and behave like windows 7 (y)
I tried Windows 10 and hated it!

I think its strange that in 2020 people are still using an outdated bastardised OS like windows when they could just use the proper version of the basic *nix kernel and use LINUX, not windoze screwed about version of it

i dont have a clue about LINUX , is it hard to understand or easy ?

easier than windows,
I am totally computer illiterate, LINUX just works,
the only caveat I would say, is that, if you use some specialised software for certain things then there may not be a Linux compatible version of it,
in my 12 years of using Linux I havent came across anything yet, but I do know of some people that have had some issues, they normally use a dual boot system or virtual system for such occassions, I myself have such a system in place, but have never needed to use it.

EDIT : give Ubuntu a go, you can run it off a USB stick without even installing it to try it out, it will just run in your RAM

I've got a separate PC with Ubuntu on it but I'm not too confident with it to use as my main OS.
I just use it to build E2 images at the moment.
I've got FileZilla installed though, so I can connect to my server.

windows defender has become quite a good security suite for windows.you could use avast,i did for years, but defender is all the average user needs.that and the free version of malwarebytes to scan with now and then.i have an old lifetime licenced malwarebytes so that is all i have for av,antimalware.i have used win10 since it became available to upgrade and never regretted losing win7.hands down this is the best os microsoft has come out with to date.the privacy issues are also easily solved.

I use linux Mint as a dual boot with win7 and find that most progs/apps that the average user would need are pre installed, just have to learn the equivalent names.
