Windows 7 Microsoft ends Windows 7 support: What should you do?

easier than windows,
I am totally computer illiterate, LINUX just works,
the only caveat I would say, is that, if you use some specialised software for certain things then there may not be a Linux compatible version of it,
in my 12 years of using Linux I havent came across anything yet, but I do know of some people that have had some issues, they normally use a dual boot system or virtual system for such occassions, I myself have such a system in place, but have never needed to use it.

EDIT : give Ubuntu a go, you can run it off a USB stick without even installing it to try it out, it will just run in your RAM

will do some research and mybe try it
thanx

Actually,
Ive made myself a bit (TOTAL) of a liar here,
I have a little netbook I bought at the beginning of last year that has windows on it, I use it when Im working away just for watching IPTV and stuff on, I cant get to grips with doing anything else on it as its too convoluted compared with the way Ubuntu works, so I cant understand it.
Ive been away a lot last year and have never got round to putting Linux on it yet. my bad :anguished:

Yep had windows 7 and upgraded free to windows 10 and had nothing but problems slowed my lappy lappy down to a crawl and also took 6 or 7 minutes to get to the password screen , i've since switched to linux and what a difference , nice and tidy and lappy now starts up in under a minute , i would recomend linux to anyone having issues with windows 10 , i think myself microsoft have overloaded 10 with a load of rubbish tou dont need , well theres my rant for the day lol ......

I must be the exception! I have always been a Windows fan, from 95. 98. ME. NT 31-40. 2000 Pro XP several hooky versions the upgrade to Vista, 7 8 then 8.1
Then 10 joined the developer option here got lots of freebies! The only thing I am p### with them is they pulled the plug on mobile phones!! Loved the continuity between phone/Tablet and Laptop!! But thats just me!

ur not the exception! i also like u have always used all the windows

Ive also used windows from xp to win 10 but i found 10 weighted down with rubbish and taking ages on startup , i switched over to linux tessa which is a lot slimmer and a far better op system then windows imo , and my lappy works 100 pc better , bootup is a lot faster now , you can also have windows and linux as a dual boot up if you prefer ....

You can simply boot it from CD or USB , set your bios to boot from wherever your Linux image is, either CD or USB
thanks

Yes, put the Ubuntu .img on the stick using the correct method, its not drag and drop or like burning a normal music file.
But into your Ubuntu media, and follow the instructions,
There are literally thousands of tutorials online about how to burn the image, the actual official download site gives step by step instructions.

I use Linux Mint and have done for years never had a problem, and believe me I am no computer whizz kid. As for running Windoesn't especially 10 forget it. Linux has a program called Wine which can run Windows programs or whatever. I have run Adobe Photoshop on it with ease. Which is a pretty heavy program to run in Windows due to some of the file sizes at times. But like this site the Linux community is there ready and willing to help. So as someone suggested if need be, run it on duel boot to suck it and see. By the way the linux program catalouge is varied and very good. Especially for Video editing and conversion and sound. Added to this Open Office is excellent. Then you have the absolute kicker the programs aree FREE. So what are you waiting for would be my thoughts on it.
