Cable My Setting up experience

5bellies

Newbie
Hi,
I purchased one of these new fangled Zgemma H1 devices. It was a toss up between one of these and an openbox v8pro. I opted for this one, and on the whole I feel I made a good choice. The one thing I found was that there is not one post that I could find that goes through setting a box up from flashing to being able to sit with a brew watching TV, from the viewpoint of a novice.
I found this forum because I was after info on how to set the box up.
Yeah, I know about MgCamd, CCCam, and i've dabbled with building a Linux server running oscam. I have been playing with Satellite and Cable TV for 20+ years, when dmac was king. The world has moved on a lot since then.
But from taking this out of the box, with so many different things about them, different images etc.. I must admit I struggled to find things. I knew what I wanted, but not sure how to get it.

So as I played with my box with the openatv image on it, I wanted to try installing the vix image, and get it running with mgcamd on it, and using the RED skin. But I had no bloody idea.
So I made notes as I went along. They may be slightly hard to follow, but I tried to write them as if I was going to get my dad to set one of these boxes up.

Here are my notes - I may well edit them and tidy them up, but hopefully it will be useful for someone who doesn't quite know how these work yet.

I am assuming no real understanding or knowledge. Set aside an hour or so.
Always remember google is your friend
Download the image I got openvix-3.2.037.release-zgemma-star-h1_usb (current at date of posting)
from here
Code:
[URL="http://www.zgemma.tv/index.php?folder=WmdlbW1hLVN0YXItSDEvT3BlblZpWA"]Updates Zgemma Star Series - Index of: home/Zgemma-Star-H1/OpenViX[/URL]==
If links are not permitted apologies, and mods, please remove and I will describe where to get this from
They have others, but I will concentrate on this one.

On the website includes instructions for making the USB for it
( create a folder in the root of the USB Drive called zgemma and unzip the file into the folder)

Place USB in the rear of the box and power up. You need to momentarily press the power button when the display shows usb. It should change to flsh and go dark and look as though it is doing nothing for a few minutes.
When I was doing this I was worried that it wasn't doing anything, but patience is the key.

After that you will get an openvix image on the screen, and eventually you will get a wizard.
You can follow the wizard or go your own way, for this I followed it
The steps are pretty straight forward - select video format. I set HDMI = 1020p = 50hz
Language Select
Screen fill (Make the display smaller or larger (Underscan or overscan))
I found the best way to get this, was by making it smaller, then moving to the right until you can see the grey line on the left, and then go back to one or two presses until the grey line on the left disappears. Then altering the size again making the grey line on the right disappear.
Repeating in a similar fashion for the top and bottom
Check Network Settings - mine checked for updates at this point.
Then to Tuner Configuration
I selected not configured for Tuner A (If you want to connect it to a Satellite Dish here is where you do it)
Tuner B Set it to enabled
Select Provider to be a cable company near you
And select the network id EG Manchester is 41060
Here is a list, I think this is an old list, so it may be slightly inacurate. I found this on a surf, so its not mine. Credit goes to the original creator.

Pressing OK will ask you if you want to manual or auto scan - or save til later.
I did a scan now, it takes a little while so its a good time to have a brew.
Will eventually show a window that will list channels as it finds them and also show a percentage complete.
Mine found 552 channels. It has to be said, not all of them cleared.

To check Tuning has worked the best bet is to find BBC 1 or 2 but not HD.

Once that is done, it is time to customise a little.
In my opinion, there are a few things that need adding to the box needs.
They are:
The red and blue skins, MGcamd, TSmedia, permanent vfd display clock, openwebif, crossepg and ABM.

Some people like CCCam. Where I have always prefered mgcamd.
These can all be added from the plugins menu
Go to menu - plugins - green (to download) and hen the plugins will be listed
In Extensions - permanentvfdclock & tsmedia (Configure the clock from the plugins menu also access TSmedia from the plugins menu)
Skins - to add open-vix-red and open-vix-blue
Softcam MGcamd.

At this point it is also worth noting there is another way to set up channels:

Go to menu = setup = service searching. If you configure in here it will create a channel line up for you (less than the scan above, but in a much nicer order)

At this point The mgcamd will not run, as it has no config. To get the softcam working yYou will need a PC and filezilla
(you need to find the IP of the H1 this is found Menu - Information - Network It will likely be 192.168.1.xxx where xxx is a number between 1-254)
Open filezilla enter the ip address in the quick connect at the top with username root and head for usr/keys folder
You need 2 files in here - first is mg_cfg.
If you don't have one to hand then you can create a text file with the following in:
Code:

When you upload it, you may need to delete the .txt off the filename - the file may get saved on your pc as mg_cfg.txt and it should just be mg_cfg
There should be no need to alter anything this should be OK to get it started, although it won't do anything unless you have a line in the other required config file

Your line hich is contained in a file called newcamd.list
Code:
CWS = vm.server.com 12000 user-10980 168248 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14
CWS = tv.server.com 10100 user-7321 1285612 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14
Built up of
CWS = host.domain.com [PORT] [Username] [Password] 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14
Here are the files if required View attachment mg_cfg.zip
Once they are in, you should have a box that works. You may need to restart the softcam
(blue button - softcam option)

I hope I haven't missed any steps out. I will have another run through but any additions or corrections are most welcome. I hope it helps someone.

Best Regards
