Assuming openatv firmware
USB in front, blue button, software manager, complete backup
you keep that file somewhere safe. If you need to use it again you power off the box, put it back on the USB stick and back in front (remove any other hard drives) power on at the back switch and the when it says USB on front led, you press the standby button - left hand side of the box at front. It will say flash.
When it changes to boot if you have a hard drive to plug back in switch the power off at back, remove the USB stick from front, Put hard drive back In at back and power on. It will say boot then Ben back to where you were before you created the backup.

Just seen its wooshbuild so it is openatv and you do have a harddrive. The instructions are correct
