What's new

No signal, becoming increasingly infuriated

So, after my last lot of issues everything got fixed and working. Which was nice, for a bit. Then it all died, my line was replaced then all good again, kind of. Then I got issues where I would have no signal, so no channels worked at all, this was intermittent and a quick restart often worked. Now though more often than not I have zero satellite signal... which obviously sucks! And restarting doesn't help. I've also re flashed to the latest wooshbuild, still nothing. Checked on the sat finder and if often flickers at 100% then goes straight to 0%. Cables checked and all fine. No issues with the sat equipment outside (already been checked, shared dish at flat block) cables were already re ended and haven't been touched since and it was working fine. Any ideas?

Are you able to take the box to a friend with a dish and check the signal using their dish?

Have you tried running a scan in AutoBouquets E2 or AutoBouquetMaker (depending which you have installed)

Try varying the length of the copper wire from sat cable at the box end.
I have found that zgemma's can be finicky on this even after working for a period of time.

How long is good? Tried mine on an old box which seems to pick up fine which is weird. Tried at a friends before and picked up signal even though their cable is shocking and seems to be falling apart!

Exactly the point I made !
I generally start with a decent centre core length and try just a loose screwed connection and then work from there.
If it's to long and screwed tightly it seems to drop the connection in my experience on a couple of boxes.

I generally work on the core length should just be slightly longer than connector.

If that doesn't work then try removing the connector and cutting the end of the cable and strip it, re apply the connector and try again.

Failing that how old is your dish, could it be the lnb?

I'll give the cables a go again tomorrow after work I think, see how that goes. Dish and equipment has been checked and is all good. It's a shared dish at the flat block. My feed from the dish is also fine so no issues on that front. Cables seems the best bet at the minute I guess!

They haven't changed the lnb on the shared dish to a skyQ one have they? Might be worth asking the neighbours.

Just a thought but have you tried disabling one of your tuners incase you have a faulty tuner?

Had a crack at cables tonight instead... no luck. Tried disabling each tuner, no luck there either, though only on tuner A it goes from 100% to zero straight away. B does nothing. What's the crack if they have changed to a skyQ lnb? Surely something should be mentioned to everyone if that's going to affect people not with skyQ?

I'm sure I read a post from someone with a similar problem and the lnb had been changed. SkyQ lnb doesn't work with anything but SkyQ, I think they have to use a hybrid lnb for freesat boxes.
Maybe the sky engineers just check who is subscribing to Sky in the block before they change it?

It's not sky it's a third party company that owns the dish so don't see why they'd change it for everyone when potentially only 1 person might have skyQ. Worth a try though. I'll hook up my old box tomorrow as well see if that picks up signal. And one more try at the cables can't hurt I guess, can't do too much though I'll run out! If my old box works and re doing the cables again doesn't then I guess I have a dud box. Which would just suck!

Do you have a old sky box you can try, or freesat box? That way you can eliminate the communal system being faulty.

Old box seems to work without issue. Re done cables. Completely reflashed from scratch. No luck. It doesn't seem to be my lucky day!

You must have a faulty tuner then. You said it tuner A goes from 100 to 0 and tuner b does nothing.

Maybe replace the tuners on the box?

I'm sure the tuners can be replaced on them.

I've never had to do it personally but I'm
Sure someone here can confirm that it can be done or not

You stated in post 4 that you tried at a friends and it worked ?
If that's the case then the tuner is fine and it's cable/connectors related ?
Perhaps you could clarify that point ?

Apologies... When I originally had issues back in August (similar situation but just with horizontal polarised channels), I tried at my friends house and it worked then. I do also plan on doing that again before I completely give up on this box. Cables/connectors have been tested on other boxes and re done 3 times...
it's as if the tuners just cut out, there's signal for a second or 2 and then it's gone. Seems a mystery so far to be honest.
I can only think that there's some sort of problem with power but then again I literally know nothing about them!

Weirdly now working again... I have literally done nothing to it but leave it on standby since Friday night. Oh and hoovered around the tv unit after it got a bit messy from a "social gathering" but I doubt it's that haha! So now I'm even more confused! But happy it's working at the moment.
