Hi have a chance to get onn 4k plus from the USA I have have read it's geo locked but can get round that was wondering is anyone using one and what are there thoughts on it I heard that if there a software update in the future and your connected to UK IP address it would brick it any information would be appreciated
 
They are geo-locked so you just have to hotspot to a device running a vpn or a router with vpn installed connected to a US server for the initial setup.
Then you can use it without a vpn.
If you ever have to factory reset then you would have to go through the same process.
 
I'm worried about future updates bricking the box don't know weather to take chance on it or pay for Thomson 270
 
Sure they will be good to go, once set up first off with vpn. Ime game to take a chance if possible. If you brick yours ile reinburse you 👍💷🇺🇸@a1gunner

I have the ONN Plus 4k which someone kindly brought for me when over in US ..yes has to be activated using a US VPN after that works perfectly. UK apps all available form UK Google play store.. except iplay can sideload tho works fine...can turn of location etc and ad tracking etc.. can't see it getting bricked or locked. One of the best boxes I have had ..for value and it's performance it blows any firstick, chromecast out of the water ..very impressive.

There's a guide here to set up, although it does seem a bit long winded. Maybe there's an easy set up techkings users have used. Would be very helpful.
 
if you check walmart website you will see onn 4k (with geo lock) is 30 USD, and higher spec onn4k pro is 50 USD with no mention of geo lock
 
Think you would still be wise to go down the vpn route, rather than take a chance. Unless anybody can confirm this. Cheers

There a few versins of the ONN box with the latest being the ONN 4k plus..some of the older ones may not need VPN activation but either way you will know when it does. As soon as you turn on and try to login with your Gmail it throws up a region lock error.
 
With what's going on with Firestick atm I'm thinking about buying a couple of ONN boxes. Would they still need a VPN to activate if the connection were via 5G mobile? Mind you I have a VPN on my mobile anyway, so wouldn't be an issue to hotspot to it with VPN running. Where's a good place to buy these on line in the UK?
 
Don't think you will do it with a mobile.
But surfshark on your router, will sort it 👍. I tried surfshark on my mobile, although vpn connected, hot spot still did not work, connected to usa. Even on laptop showed connected to usa still couldn't hotspot with connection.
Logged into my router, added open vpn usa configure files surfshark again. All things now connected via usa. Hope this helps.
