openbox v5s wont connect using wifi.

Hi, i purchased openbox with 24month gift and it arrived today, but the wifi dongle wont connect.It works, as it picks up my router. I have turned it on, and green light is showing. In setup, the DCHP is turned on, but the ip adresses are faded, and when i turn the DCHP off, the ip addresses are bright. Is this the problem? I have also turned ethenet on, then off, then the wifi back on, so the box resets, but still, wifi device is unable to connect and just times out. I have tried over 50times. Thanks in advance, i am a total newbie, and have only today switched over from 10+ years sky tv.

Okay Lisa, first thing, it is normal when DCHP is on to have faded numbers, and vice versa. is there a way for you to actually hard wire it using an ethernet cable? I don't know the openbox personally, but I have a skybox and the optimum way to connect was always ethernet cable. The skybox can only use a specific dongle, you just cant use any dongle with it, have you gotten the dingle with the box specifically?

how do you know the dongle is working?

When you say you turned ethernet on and off, do you mean the settings on the box?

are there apps on the openbox the same as the skybox (youtube and youporn), if so when you turn them on, are they receiving the broadband signal?

Give as much additional info as you can think of, and most importantly don't panic, between us all here, we will give it a good shot to get you online.

I dont think its normal for the DCHP settings to be faded, as i looked on youtube and a tutorial showed non faded settings. Is it possible the settings are from the sellers pc?
I would need to purchase extension cables to wire it with ethernet cable, as the modem is in another room.
The dongle came with the box today, and is original skybox wifi.
I know the dongle is working, as it picks up all the wifi networks around me, and my network is there. I have checked, and double checked that im not typing in the wrong password.
Yes, i turned the ethernet on and off using the settings on the box.
Not sure if app working, as kids watching tv, so cant check right now, but almost certain they wont be, as its not connected to internet.

As wheelo said, it is normal for the settings to be greyed out when DHCP is selected.

This is because DHCP chooses the settings for you, so they are greyed out to prevent you from changing them.

As wheelo said, it is normal for the settings to be greyed out when DHCP is selected.

This is because DHCP chooses the settings for you, so they are greyed out to prevent you from changing them.

OK, so i woke up this morning, and turned it on (turned off overnight) and it connects to internet, so that problem is sorted.
Now, all the freeview channels are open, but all others are locked, and this box came with 24m gift, so i have messaged the seller, but no reply!!!!! Is there something i need to do to activate these? It was supposed to come pre-installed.

Do the channels say scrambled? I would look into purchasing some homeplugs as well as wifi dongles can glitch and scramble the channels.

if so your 24 month gift is not on or your supplier has not put it on.

its recomended not to get a box with a gift already on off ebay as they tend to only last 2/3 months then seller disappears. ( some do last but most dont )

To double check that you have an internet connection go to menu > network local setting > network app > youtube. Select a category from the left hand column by pressing OK. If you have a good internet connection, you should see a list of clips in the middle column & a thumbnail preview in the right column. Don't worry if the clips won't actually play, as they don't always.

If your line is in Ccam, you can check if it is connected by going to Menu > network local setting > camds setup > CCcam client setup > manage config files > CCcam.cfg. Your line should have a green tick next to it & it should show as Online. (if you don't see Camds setup in the network local setting menu press 6666).

If you don't see anything there, then it may be in MGCam.

Menu > network local setting > camds setup > MGCamd plug setup > manage config files > newcamd.list. Unfortunately, unlike CCcam, there is no indication to tell you that it's online.

A massive thanks to you all for all your support. Stangely, when i tried the channels after i went into network settings, pressed 6666 to get the camds setup, which was all ok, all channels were open. One of lifes mysteries i guess.

Problem solved. Just for future reference, when the gift runs out, where is the cheapest place to purchase a year? i see them on ebay, just wodering if you guys know anywhere cheaper?

For me, avoid Ebay. there is a section on here, where you ask for recommendations, and providers from here will contact you and give you prices and probably a test line, you try many, then make a decision

All channels scrambled again, however, after checking the above, ie

the server shows offline, how do i get it online?

Is the app working? I was having similar problems with the box recognizing my router, my solution was to knock off the DCHP, reboot, haven't had the problem since.
 
Hi, i knocked off the DCHP, rebooted, now server says login (where it said offline) how do i login? Yes the apps are working, or trying to!

The login thing sounds a bit more on your servers end, but wait till someone more knowledgeable comes in and tells you something else.

what you could try now is to knock back in the DCHP again and reboot - sometimes it is as simple as kncing it off rebooting, knocking it on and rebooting.
 
Im a total newbie, so forgive my lack of knowledge, but the server went back to offline. The DCHP went back to on too. Also, the server is 'my name'. Should it be my server showing here?
 
wifi trouble

On my box. When the dhcp is grated out it will not connect. If I turn it on I have to put the second IP connection the same as the prepared to make it work. The problem is it won't remember what I have done after I restart it. Even after applying it. Any help please
 
When I go into network settings on the open box and scroll over to wifi, the wifi manager is grey, and I cannot access it to put in my internet settings.
I am using a Sky wifi extender plugged into the open box and on the wifi extender just the power light is on,When I put it back into the sky box wifi comes back on.
Do you think it is the sky wifi extender that is the problem? :(
