Hello all

Bought a Passat last week old one 2007 non dpf and 2.0tdi. Bkp engine

Had a mare upto now. Think it’s more bad luck my side than anything else to be honest

Had a faulty thermostat housing repaired at the garage £150

Thought ok it’s not to bad. Had a phone call just before picking it up and told the garage had broken down in my car and the fuel pumps broken

They wanted £350 to fix

Went home looked at YouTube videos spoke to friends who work on cars and was told easy job don’t pay that much for it.

Ordered the correct part as confirmed by gsf motors and they cross referenced it all with vw

Got home was a piece of piss. Started car all good.

Just noticed the fuel level before replacement was just below quarter and now fuel level is just above it’s only small amount out

Also topped up with £10 worth and it went up two notches which seemed ok

Is it normal for pumps to show slightly different amounts or have I ballsed up?

Is this the fuel sender in the tank all in one unit. Did you have both side by side to observe identical.
Think the only way of messing it up is by not taking care of the float arm while inserting into the tank.
This is the whole unit replacement and not just a pump.

Thermostat housing was possibly on of those plastic jobs which fail over time.

Yes fuel pump and sender unit. Goes under the rear seat behind driver. Yes they were identical. Height and mechanics all the same. It’s only slightly out or the old one was wrong who knows

Yes thermostat was a piece of plastic. 2 pipes in and 1 out.

£20 quid part £12 coolant rest was labour meh

They might of sucked out any crap in the bottom of the tank when replacing the sender unit. And then bleeding the system will use more fuel again, roast testing etc, have you filled the tank up to see where the needle on the dash sits? Might be a safe bet not to let it go below quarter of a tank if your still concerned

I’ve never got money to fill it fully:. Most I put in is £30-£35 meh

It’s been good since

Been doing 100 odd mile a 7 days a week for two weeks now hasn’t missed a beat

My dads in hospital after having a bleed on the brain on new years eve

He’s still in and very confused

But getting better
