Payment methods review

A lot of bitcoin ATMs will let you sell bitcoin for cash. This wouldn’t involve the bank, and is one way to cash out bitcoin without involving the bank.

There are also websites that let you buy gift cards for bitcoin.
There are no such ATM's in the UK.
This forum is a UK forum

Well again, possibly a bitcoin atm. But they do have high fees
This makes me ask everyone at what point is it too far? For example, withdrawing from a Bitcoin ATM / p2p seller is probably the closest thing to total anonymity. Is that too much, or is it better to transfer from your own wallet to an exchange like Coinbase and sell there? Obviously, that then falls under your name. Is the Man really going to these lengths to trace crypto, and is that even within their capabilities?

You would need it to get card in the first place I would have thought.
No, a bitcoin ATM doesn’t use a card. It gives you an address to send bitcoin to, and it dispenses cash. Or vice versa - you deposit cash and it sends bitcoin to you.

Well I agree. It’s better to just hold the crypto if possible and keep it untraceable for as long as possible. Once you need to convert it to fiat, there are some different ways to do that anonymously but it’s tough.

Different ways other than a p2p exchange or BTC ATM?

I was hoping this thread would spark more general discussion about payment methods, but it seems everyone prefers crypto. Curious what people think about PayPal these days especially with the increased KYC/verification requirements.

Are you talking about as a buyer or seller?

In Canada where I live, they don’t really prosecute consumers of pirated content. So I would say there is pretty low risk using PayPal as a buyer. But depends how important your privacy is to you, obviously. In the UK, I’m not sure if law enforcement takes a similar position.

As a seller it’s obviously higher risk. A lot of sellers still take it because many customers simply won’t pay crypto, but I do think it’s becoming less common.

As crypto becomes more accessible I do think it will overtake thinks like PayPal completely. It’s getting easier and easier for laypeople, and it’s becoming quite a reliable way to transfer internationally.

Yeah I was thinking more in general terms rather than strictly end users vs suppliers. It’s understandable that end users will prefer PayPal the risk with something like PayPal seems relatively low, aside from the obvious privacy considerations.

For the supplier the risk seems generally higher, which probably explains why there’s been a gradual shift in preferred payment methods. I’ve also seen people mention that how accounts are set up (stealth) or verified or indeed in certain countries can factor into how exposed someone feels, but information on that seems limited.

So PayPal still seems widely used simply because it’s convenient and familiar for most end users. And yes Crypto does seem like it’ll become more dominant over time, especially as it gets easier to use and more accessible.

If suppliers only want bitcoin and you dont eant to use it, then use someone else.
Plenty out there who dont require bitcoin.
At the moment yes. But it won't stay like that I dont think an e.g could be you have found a really good supplier who only takes bitcoin or whatever. Another one who is not so good but takes PayPal then you have a tough decision

Keep testing to you find your personal requirements are met.
There's plenty out there
