Post mortem examinations are under way on the bodies of two men found inside a burnt-out car in Co Louth on Wednesday night.

Preliminary examinations indicated that the men had been shot.

It is believed they were killed as part of a Dublin gang related feud over the illegal drugs business.

The scene at Ravensdale Forest near Dundalk remains sealed off and a forensic search of the area is being carried out.

The bodies were found in a burnt-out car on a secluded road near Dundalk two days ago.

The Volkswagen Golf in which their bodies were found had been stolen in the Sandymount area of Dublin a week ago.

Gardaí believe the victims had been minor criminals living near Dublin city centre.

It is understood that DNA tests or dental records will be required to establish their identities.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for anyone with information to come forward in the strictest confidence.
