Premier League footballers should "take a pay cut and play their part" during the coronavirus pandemic, says health secretary Matt Hancock.

Some clubs have furloughed non-playing staff but not looked at players' wages.

"Given the sacrifices many people are making, the first thing PL footballers can do is make a contribution," he said at the daily government briefing
Coronavirus: Premier League players should take a pay cut - Matt Hancock

100% in my opinion footballers must take a pay cut they do not live in a bubble what do you all think?

Definitely joe516 , and all the pay cuts should go to NHS, Police, and everyone else that's putting their lives at risk with everything going on m8.

been on news if clubs can afford to pay players and staff they should. But would be wiser giving a pay cut or freezing their salaries whilst not playing whilst ever football suspended all club medical staff should offer support during this difficult time

If they furlough staff then they can claim 80% back from the govt scheme and make up the other 20% themselves. If they furlough players they can claim back up to £2500 a month from the govt and would have a mutiny on their hands.

If they've got a spare £300K to pay one person every week but not got a spare £350 to pay cleaners, caterers and ground keepers then they shouldn't be allowed to claim 80% of the £350 from taxpayers.
The players should be offered a choice, £1000 per week or nothing, if they can't manage on a grand a week there's something not right.

A grand a week that not even cover the nanny fee's or the personal gardener ffs lol but yeah they got plenty of money and lets face it the fans tickets and tv subs etc help to pay their wages so time to give a little back to the people thats for sure (y)

These drama queens especially in this country wont take a pay cut as for them they are in desperate need of the £30 million or how ever much they make a year.

There are some footballers abroad who have taken such pay cuts but here such players are exempt it seems.

Taking a pay cut for these rich famous tools should be a given for what is happening as such pay cut can help those who really need the money.

I think most players would happily take pay cuts! All premier clubs should cover the wages of non playing staff, it's the owners of some clubs that worry me no names (Spurs) taking 4 million bonus and asking the government to cover the wages of non playing staff is a disgrace!

Players at EPL clubs are being guided by the PFA who have stated "Contrary to some press reports the PFA has never stated that it will block all wage deferrals. What we have sought to put in place is a structured and unified approach to ensure a fair response across the leagues." They've literally advised all their members to sit tight and not agree to aby wage deferrals so that players in lower leagues, many of whom earn just a normal working man's wage, are treated fairly and not subject to a sweeping judgement on player wages.

I'd like to see all our Governing party's employees work for expenses only throughout this pandemic and all their salary go straight into the wage packets of health professionals, in the form of a daily attendance bonus and compensation payments for anyone infected with Covid-19. Surely they can afford that on the wages they're on?

Employees of all these political parties should also take pay cuts they have fat bonuses doing F all.

But when it comes to taking pay cuts those who are wealthy would not contemplate it as not having all their money will be very bad indeed for them.
