so do they have to issue me another 50" tv or can they issue smaller

thanks in advance

trouble is its old and modern tvs upgrade, maybe the new ones are all full hd:eyes:i had a similar problem over xmas no picture or sound the buggers got it fixed cause if not repairable i would have got the new one with better specs,i hope your given the latest model as i believe they screw you in the price of the warranty, paybacks a bitch lol, hopefully others may know more about warranties.

ps eyesight that bad i need the 50" smaller is not an option(y)

They should give u the same size but i would watch what make they give u,find out what make and type there going to send u before they do then if not happy ring them and say thats not good enough, ive had them try and give me a tv that had been used and repaired even had one sent to me with marks on it.Dont be soft with them its not a free tv there sending u had to pay for it.

What they did to me was to give me a price for my telly
and sent it out in vouchers for Dixons, Currys, PC world
they are all the same group. You can buy what you want
then. I added a bit too it an got a bigger telly.

There are still plenty of 50" Plasma, 1080i tvs out there
(I had an LG and it went in 18 months, won't go back to them again)

I would give them the make and model of a 1080p one
and tell them thats what you want.

Thanks for that info guys, i will hold out for the best deal they can offer me and hopefully i will get some form off credit note to go and pick my own tv.

depends on what cover you took out if it was new for old then they should give you the equivalent. Problem is technology changes so much what you had then was great but now that sort of technology is old- so dont expect a fancy new flashy tv. They should. Could also be that if you refuse their offer they can say buy! if they cant repair it either give you similar or offer vouchers, but again it depends on the wording of the warranty you took out - so for now id check the T&Cs and the small print. Plus how ever much you paid for you tv then they can also say wear & tear and prices of tvs have come down so much over the yrs. We paid less for out new 3d tv than we did for the plasma we bought 2 yrs ago! Same brand!! So with the warranty you have paid out you could have saved that and put it towards a new tv. They wanted to charge me like over £100 per yr for cover. In 5 yrs time 3D ts wont cost that much!

heres a link to what they say

KNOWHOW | Whatever Happens - TV

it tells me in there small print that

[h=3]Replacement product[/h]If we are unable to repair your product within 21 days for Whatever Happens™, you may request a replacement product. The replacement will usually be in the form of vouchers to enable you to purchase a product of equivalent specification. Occasionally you may receive a fully reconditioned product.
If you have originally purchased a product labelled as ‘previously owned’ or ‘non-pristine’ our 21 day promise does not apply and you will receive vouchers to the value of the original price paid.
If you have bought Whatever Happens™ for 3 or 5 years and your product is replaced, your service agreement ends. We will send you vouchers for the remaining value to use when you next purchase a Whatever Happens™ agreement. If you pay monthly, your agreement will end

So it looks like might be getting vouchers for the equivelant product, or even a recondition tv ( this i dont want)

Oh well fingers crossed they send me the voucher code

Links should be put in

So you paid a monthly fee for the knowhow whateverhappens next? can you refuse a refurbd tv if they cant fix yours. maybe they will be able to fix it, If you can ask for vouchers, then hopefully what you paid for the tv originally will give you enough for a top of the range tv AND change! But i bet there is small print!!!

Keep us posted with the outcome - be interesting to find out exactly what they have done for you.
As said i have never taken out any extendend warranty as a new item tv, pc etc is usually far less than they expect you to pay of the 3-5 yr period

I've just phoned the knowhow team which is the people who repair service the tv.

They have told me that the tv has been wrote off and issued me with a code to take to the shop and pick a new 50" tv (no doubt this will be probably the lower off the specs) but this is better than any refurbed tv.

will let you know what the voucher code gets me when i go to pick my new t.

Unfortunately working nights and need my kip otherwise i'd been straight to the nearest currys/pc world. looks like thats what i'm doing friday or saturday now.

incidently for those wondering i paid £250 for the initail knowhow cover, this might prove to be a well spent £250

Heres a update for you, i went to the local currys shop today and they issued me with a voucher for £449 and wanted to give me a certain tv.

instead i decided to pay a few quid extra to upgrade the tv they wanted me to have to a 3D one.

I did how ever have a couple off issues with the tv they originally wanted to give me as they stated they would do like for like or better if they couldn't match the spec.

First was my original plasma had 3 HDMI sockets and was 15w x 2 speakers.

Apparently the HDMI sockets and speakers arent part off the spec ? which i tried arguing the whole car alloys spoiler thing but they wasnt having any off it.

So does anybody know how they do there spec comparsion?

anyway the tv is on order and due to be delivered in the next week or so.

most tvs are now using hdmi as scart is old skool, some tvs may have 2 3 or 4 hdmi, what make are you going for,are panasonic still doing a 5 year warranty? years ago i bought a pioneer plasma kuro and speakers are bought as an extra

getting this one Buy LG 50PM670T Full HD 50" Plasma 3D TV | Free Delivery | Currys

does what i need it for but not kean on the brand, gutted if i was told that panosonic did 5 year warranty i'd paid the extra for one off the them.

Oh well suppose i should do a bit more home work next time on plus side though i getting 3D tv so the kids at least will ike it, i just need to ********** that with a 3D stb now. any suggestions on that ?

I needed the hdmi sockets cos the other half is more of technophobe than me (just) the majority in the shop had 2 of them, need 3 at least Ps3, stb, dvd recorder etc.

---------- Post Merged at 10:15 PM ----------

just realised that the voucher they gave me, i could have used on a smaller tv with better specs etc oh well lesson learnt, next time i wont let them talk me into stuff :whacko:

do some reading up on lg tvs as the local shop used to sell 10 and get 6 back for repair it drove them mad.
as you dont have it yet can you not change your mind.?

not sure how it works as they already took the difference out the account

I know that the lgs arent that good but might just wait and see what the tv is like ( i know been warned ) but got the warranty again so touch wood etc at least covered.

Ps wasn'y just my choice the missis wanted the 60" quite ironic that originally she didnt want the 50" lol. only got small living room so the tv takes up most off it thats why i was thinking going smaller etc

Women can say what they want, but in the end, size matters. LOL

Just glad that they were able to get you sorted and hopefully the new TV works out great for you.

As you got the LG you wont need expensive glasses - do you get any with the tv?? My panasonic i had to buy 3 more pair of glasses at £50 each. With LG you can use the same glasses ( apparently) that you buy for the cinema.

Ive got a Panasonic we just bought and they do NOT offer a 5 yr warranty :(

Hubby wanted a 55" but i said No so we went for the 50 as we had 42 before. Must admit we could have probably got away with the 55" but in the branch of currys we went into they had a size comparison on the wall for the size of your room and tv - our room is not really big enough to watch a 502 tv apparently comfortably. You need to be xx feet away from tv to watch comfortably for your eyes ( so they say) Im about 8-10ft away from our tv and hubby is about 10-12 ft away

i have 47" LG led cinema 3D and 3D picture is very good it's better than Panasonic LG passive 3d and Panasonic active 3d

all good like said just wait and see what the quality is like before i complain,

I never even thought about glasses for the tv so not sure if getting any free or what. Do i have to buy specialised glasses or do the ones from the pictures work?

Also do i need to get different stb, dvd recorder to play 3d stuff or will they run threw any ordinary blu ray dvd player ?

Glasses depend on the type of 3D mine i have to have active shutter ones but LG think the cinema one work, but best check - lookup the spec it should tell you if it comes with any or what you need. Sky are the only ones with a 3D channel, you will need a 3D bluray player to watch 3d and depending on your tv on mine i have a button that turns any prog from 2D into 3D. Also you will need ( so i was told) a 3D hdmi cable to be able to watch 3D thats what currys told me @ a cost of around £80 rather than a basic normal hdmi, but check!

Just looked up your tv and it says glasses NOt included! seen this AND if you decided to purchase please go via our TK amazon shop

also found this Suitable matching 3D glasses model number - LG AGS350

But the store you purchased from should tell you exactly which glasses you need.
I didnt realise there were so many different 3D glasses out there and that it depended on what tv you buy as to which type of 3D glasses you need! If you buy the wrong ones its a waste of money :(
And if you need 3+ pair ( i needed 5, but got 2 free) its a lot of money to waste if they are the wrong ones!

if you want to record or play 3d films answer is yes,you will need new 3d blu ray rec/player but the ordinary one can still be used in the normal 2d ,curious as the sat boxes can do 3d but can you record on hdd in 3d?.
if your getting glasses as said need to be matched up to tv you will need somewhere to store them and not on your chair, expensive to get replaced when you sit on them.
