Sat boxes/Windows 10/Network question

Morning all,

I currently run two Sat boxes both on the same network. When Im on my laptop (windows 10) My Zgemma is found using file explorer under the network heading but my Edision is not found ?? They are both connected to the network via ethernet cables.

Does anyone know why this is ??

The only reason I ask this question or why it makes a any difference is that I dont need to use Filezilla, it just lets me open the files on the Zgemma using windows 10. Just wondered why I cant do the same with my Edision box ???

Thanks.

bought my VU+ Zero from someone works perfect, but they could not remember the pass they set for it so I cannot putty/filezilla to it. So then I thought forget it not bothered, then like you I noticed it appeared on Windows 10 via network locations and lets my access it fine.

I can only guess that there is a different something or other within the setup of your box? are they using the same image? mine is running Blackhole and works fine though Windows 10 network locations.

My Zgemma is ATV and my edision is VIX but both using the SkyQ image. Not sure why one is found on file explorer and the other isnt when they are both connected to network ???

Try user root pass dreambox

Oh I can use Filezilla if I need to mate, Im not stuck. I can access it through Filezilla fine just out of curiosity I was wondering why my laptop couldnt pick it up on the network ?

Just wondered if anyone knew the answer but its no great shakes if not.

Thanks anyway.

I use Dreambox Control Centre (DCC) for my FTP needs, so simple and easy to use and has never given me a single issue.

You could always try and set up a new local network for that box.

How to set up a local network up in windows with your box.

First of all your computer needs to be hard-wired to broadband box, not wifi.

Get your network connection ip from your enigma2 box
Press Menu/Information/Network
write your IP number down.

On step 4 below as the address enter ftp://root@yourip number ( e.g. should look like this ftp://root@192.168.1.34)

1. Open Computer folder (MyComputer)
2. Now Click on Add a network location button from the standard tool bar.
3. Click Next (Add network location), Choose a custom network location, Next
4. Click on “Browse” to select a network drive of the folder; otherwise if you know the folder or drive you can type it directly into the “Internet or network address” text box. Click Next.
5. Enter your username and password, check Remember my credentials, click OK
6. Type a name for this network location, click Next and Finish

If you type \\minios in the network window it should open up like the Zgemma does. The Edision I had here wouldn't show up until I did that a couple of times then it was fine. If that still doesn't work you can type \\ipaddress

It worked with enabling SAMBA. I would like to know what SAMBA does and if it'll cause me problems having it enabled.

I have also changed the names of my two boxed on my network. I dont want my service provider seeing i have two sat boxes connected to my router. Bit paranoid me !?!?!?!?

Samba is an extremely useful networking tool for anyone who has both Windows and Unix systems on his network. Running on a Unix system, it allows Windows to share files and printers on the Unix host, and it also allows Unix users to access resources shared by Windows systems.

Just about sums it up. No it won't cause any problems having it enabled but will solve problems like it just has.

Your ISP cannot see what is connected to your router unless you give them remote access which would only be with your permission and would have to be enabled by you. Even if they could see and it was without your permission it would be breaking so many privacy laws they wouldn't be able to do jack to you anyway.
