'Beautiful' baby Jack is said to be doing well in hospital despite his ordeal

The baby boy, who is just a couple of days old, was found in a bag on the porch of the Hawk And Buckle pub in Etwall, Derbyshire just after 11pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to Derby Royal Hospital where staff named him Jack and confirmed that he was in good health.

But both police and hospital staff are keen to trace his mother, saying they are concerned for her welfare.

"Clearly his mother has recently given birth to a child so it is really really important that she is assessed and seen by medical staff as soon as possible, really for her own health," said director fo nursing Em Wilkinson-Brice.

Derbyshire Constabulary issued their own plea for information on the mother of the infant.

"Police are urgently trying to trace the baby's mother as they are concerned for her welfare," said a spokesperson for the force.

"Officers want to stress that anyone providing information can do so in confidence."

Ms Wilkinson-Brice said of 'Jack': "He is a beautiful baby boy and he is being cared for on the children's ward.

"He will need some treatment for the next 48 hours and various tests are being done as a precautionary measure."

His mother has been urged to call the hospital's assessment unit on 01332 785796.
