Hi all,

Pretty new here and also new to C/N lines etc.

I've been looking around and found there can be huge differences in server costs from about £20/year to £20/month

So... any ideas why such a big difference? Are the pricier ones offering a better service or just ripping people off?

Yeah, I've just been looking at sat lines really. Been offered full UK with all extras for £20/year from various people. A quick Google search finds loads of sites asking for closer to £20/month. Are these just ripping people off or do they have bigger/better servers with more locals, better support etc?

if you get great service, its still a lot cheaper than official.
I'm happy with mine, sat is £45 year. service and support.

ask in the sat section for recommendations, take 1 month a time until you are happy with what you get

I agree with this.

Most of the cheap ones wont be that great you need to think of it as the person running the server has to buy a legit sub so they will for one sub be paying sky full price for all the channels so you are looking at £200 a month how will they get that back if it's £20 a year? well they would have to have a lot of people on the server which is when you will start getting problems.

Next they would of had to pay for extra services and equipment costs.

From a few providers I have spoke to they said Cable puts more strain on the server which is why costs are higher.

Prices I have seen for servers that have been around many years have cable 1 year sub around £90 - sat £35.

If you want to pay monthly then yes it is more expensive but far cheaper then taking that package out with VM/Sly and some of the ones that offer monthly only are to give customer a bit of security so they don't pay the big sum up front then it gets taken down feeling ripped off.

Thanks for the input guys. Problem I have is I won't be using the service myself so first I'll know of poor service is people complaining to me.

I don't watch much TV myself but have quite a few family and friends wanting me to set them up.

Would like all with same provider, possibility of earning a little for myself would be nice too, I see a few of the more expensive services Google throws up have a reseller scheme. Any opinions on these?

I can see this turning into another "my server costs so much and is really good, contact me for info" thread.

So closed.
