should some suppliers just be honest?

Most will either be resellers or sub sellers which delays when problems occur (sub sellers) or you get certain members on here recommending other peoples service just so they can scrounge and get freebies off the provider.
As Mike has pointed out not all resellers are bad as some will be available for help support new setups ect.
Tbh you really shouldn’t care if your with a reseller or not the service they provide is only as good as they make it.
Some would argue the case that you pay peanuts each month and so saving a fortune each month from paying vm/sly but most comes down to user error with not the right setup or settings in the devices they use imo

Plus most have a backup incase on stream goes down.

To be honest I think once suppliers get to a certain size they just get resellers to do the day to day stuff anyway.

They concentrate on keeping the service up and running.

It's worse for some IPTV providers now as the panels they use to provide the service are built using freely available code found online (following the collapse of the original Xtream Codes panels), there are genuinely some providers out there that have bespoke set ups that get around the need for using VPN.
yes you can get around the need for a VPN. that will not protect you from your ISP. if you have thousands hitting the same supplier. at least if you use a VPN all they will get is the IP of the VPN. as evreything else is protected.

I have a VPN installed on all my devices but it's turned off. Only comes on on the rare occassion that provider has been blocked, but in a lot of cases the provider has managed to circemvent the block in a few minutes of it kicking in.

People say a VPN is required for privacy/security but :

1. why do we think Joe Bloggs VPN services are going to keep private our traffic? They tell us they do but it's strange that peope automatically trust a VPN provider. Who's to say they don't have a deal with the likes of $ky to pass them info on traffic that looks like streaming? My provider doesn't accept connections via one block of servers because there have been leaks via the company hosting those servers.

2. If my ISP was bothered about what I was doing online then I would have heard from them by now, after 20 years with them something would have happened. Yes they can see at a glance that I am streaming, but without looking too closely they wouldn't know if I am on netflix, bbc iplayer or pornhub, and if they do know, as I said after 20 years they obviously aint that bothered.

3. why would people pay for decent bandwidth from their ISP and then constantly use a VPN which reduces that bandwidth? doesn't make sense. I've just done speed tests, both connecting to the same server, without VPN speeds are 160 down/38 up, with a vpn it's 110 down/25 up that's a loss of 30% download speed during off peak times. I'm paying good money for good speeds, why the hell do I then want to cut it down by 30%? Anyone who claim's using a VPN doesn't reduce speeds is living on cloud cookoo, it has to as the VPN server has a max bandwidth on their network card, as more people connect to it, the lower the bandwidth each user can use.

It hardly effects bandwidth if you have decent I pay for 200 meg and it is constant at 215 without VPN. With a VPN 200 meg

I’ve always stated/posted most decent providers have work rounds within minuites of blocks 2 minds think alike there bud with what you’ve posted it would be like buying an f1 car and saying you can hits speeds of 200mph+ but then you put foot to floor and does 110mph max lol

Isp Can’t give you more speeds then what your paying for think your speed test is a bit off bud lol well I’ve never had higher speeds then what was stated!!!

I use different speed tests the results are the same. Virgin advertise 200 meg normally 215. As it's full fibre it doesn't really drop

When you get full fibre in your area go for it. It's a game changer your speeds remain totally stable throughout the day.

Depending on the hardware you use will determine how VPNS behave

I think Mike makes a good point in this thread. IMO suppliers should understand their customers when sending out their sales pitch. If you are a reseller just seeking to anyone then you are likely selling to people new to this and don’t know what goes on in the background, they will read the sales pitch like they are reading the t&c’s on a sly contract before signing up. When the blocks hit them they will be the ones to kick off stating that you said no VPN required.

They should also give them a quick lesson on bandwidth. If little Johnny is playing his Xbox on line and you have a 60 meg download speed you may run into problems.

Think you have just opened a can of worms there Mike with what I’ve seen in other posts on that subject 😂

Totally agree on the hardware point
I run my VPN through a router, a pretty decent one , so I'm told by folks on here, it was recommended by a member here.
I only get high 60s (pay for 74) , 67-69 usually,
But it doesn't change whether I have VPN on or not.

I also agree with this, to an extent,
My lads PS5 doesn't run through the VPN router, but occasionally I get the odd buffer when he is online, my speeds don't appear to drop, so I assume it's a bandwidth issue.
I'd also add that I'm of the opinion you need a decent ping as well.

It would only probably be of concern in reality to people who have less than 30 meg. And high latency rates.

In VM case they can and mike is right about the speed.

Virgin do advertise 100mb 200mb but majority of people on VM get that extra speed.

Had 110mb on 100mb package and now roughly 213mb on 200mb package

I must be honest evreyyime I have checked it's always been above 200. Only thing with virgin support is crap

Ye the extra speed is always been a strange one with them.

Their CS is rubbish no two ways about it. Sitting abroad trying to sort problems out lol

See your point but if you have a top of the range router and use the wireguard protocol you will loose very little speed if any.

And your right some VPN companies will spill the beans not all though . PIA VPN would not give details to the FBI, they were taken to court for not doing so. But for us small time streamers and down loaders on what ever platform your using VPN gives your ISP no clue what your doing, they may need to take a VPN company to court to find out you downloaded now thats what i call music 1000 i dont think so. No VPN they know what you have done.
