sky+ boxes

I think this has probably been on the forum/s in the past but as a newcomer of only a few days:

My mother in law has a really old bog standard sky box (approx 15-20yrs old) a neighbour has offered her a sky+ box as they have upgraded to a sky+HD box.

Question is it possible for her to use the sky+box with her 'standard' card or will she need to upgrade or register her card for the 'newer' type of box?

sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

Thanks

a sky box has to be used with the card that came with it,it is matched to box to work.
it may need 2 cables for newer sky + hd need 2 to work.

Thanks cactikid
I will look into getting the mother in-law's card matched to the 'gifted' sky+ box (if at all possible) - it's not easy talking to sky though, it takes ages to get through and everything (however simple) appears to cost £'s

when you contact them not sure what their T&C's are on boxes if they belong to the person that previous had it or if its owned by sky! Either way as long as they agree to marry your view card with the box you should be ok! ubt as said not sure on the + part they may tell you they need to come and upgrade your cables or something. But if your old sky box is that old should they have not already upgraded you at somepoint over the years with all the new technology. Sorry im a VM customer. its not easy talking to any customer service department these days! :(

Thanks for the reply Linny40 I've contacted sky today and they say it's not a problem to change the box but for it to work the card has to be contected to the new box by their tech team all I need to do is connect the box up ready and obtain a couple of I.D. numbers off the menu services screens.
They were suprisingly helpful and I only had to wait 6mins on the phone to get through - result.
Thanks anyway to all.
