Sky Q

Just to let you all know there have been a lot of problems running boxes via card sharing if you have the new sky Q box installed, dont know if they have put something in place to stop it working

Apparently the sly engineers change your LNB to a different one, this stops your E2 boxes working. There is a way round this by using a different LNB that suits your new SlyQ and E2 box. Not too clued up on the correct terminology for the said LNB's but I'm sure someone will come along to explain

UPDATE: It seems that Sky Q is currently only being sold and installed if you have Sky Broadband, although we're expecting that to change soon. We know that Sky wants to prioritse existing Sky Broadband customers for Sky Q installations, so this makes sense.

And todays skycon is----
Reaper.

Cant see it being an LNB issue, what do you think on that one mr reaper

The box has 12 tuners built in therefore a universal lnb is a no go---so easiest way around is to cancel sky and become a "pirate" lol
Reaper.

Where's freeuk when you need him, he will put the record straight. Its definitely something to do with LNB guys.

Mr dangerous i stand corrected and hold my hands up sir,the lnb is the problem

Different lnb is used, I would think it send signal down as vertical and horizontal the box then combines this hence why it has 12 tuners, a bit like a communal setup but the box is the main end that you would have in the attic or something where all flats connect to, if you try connect a box to this cable directly it won't work, I'm sure sky are offer there hybrid option where it has more ports but the lnb this time will change itself so say port 1 and two is getting a request from q box it knows to give that signal down the cable but say port 3 and 4 is a request from a normal sat box then it knows to send that signal down the cable. I don't know how much theset cost but a friend did say they are for sale when ordering.

Easy option as why i started the thread is to have a new dish fitted as and when anybody has a new skyQ box fitted and to keep your existing dish and get them to fit an extra dish for the Q box, might look a bit fuddy duddy though but you will get the both boxes working

I don't see the engineer fitting a new dish when he knows he can use the one there as in his eyes there's no use for it, he might have the option to use the hybrid lnb and get it charged to you and can say you use freesat in other rooms.

waldo if you make it clear when ordering your Q box that you want a new dish fitted they will do it i can assure you

Your maybe right, but I don't see them bringing out an option of hybrid lnb to then say yeh we will just put another dish up for you the reason for that lnb is clearly for people that do have freesat boxes that don't belong to sky and the option is hybrid. But I suppose time will tell.

I'm sure the engineer would also like some cash in his pocket than paying for hybrid lnb :)

after the contact is up any existing dish on the house belongs to you, waldo i do 2 days a week at the moment contracting to mr murdoch

Suppose you got me there dish and lnb does belong to you, so I assume you can just say to engineer leave that where it is and fit new one next to it I want to keep my freesat. 2 days? You should know all there is to know about new lnb then?

No waldo,im not on the new installations, just doing new cables on old dishes
