Skybox F6 Recording- File Type

skirmish

Newbie
I've had my Skybox for a couple of years and it's worked during that time. As well as watching live TV I also record programmes which I watch later using the Skybox.

One programme I watch is Landscape Artist of the Year on Sky Arts. I would also really like my elderly bedbound mum to be able to watch it on her TV and there lies the problem.
The recording from the Skybox is a TS file and that will not play, using a USB stick, on her Celcus TV. I've tried to convert the flie using various video conversion programmes but with limited success. The one programme I did manage to successfully use was time limited so I'd have to spend £30 to get it to work again. It seems a bit daft to be watching programmes using a Skybox for minimal cost only to then have to pay to convert those files!

Is there any way the Skybox can record in a different file format so I don't then have to convert it?
Alternatively does anyone know a good TS - mpeg converter that will work and which is free.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Dave
