Hi Guys

hope everyone had a nice Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

I was just wondering if its possible to use the WiFi dongle for SB F3 with a PC that has no wireless adapter built in? essentially allowing the PC to connect to the internet via the adaptor?

if so can anyone tell me where i could find a driver, specifically fro Windows XP?

Thanks All

Hi, dunno if its any use but i just tried one on a win8 PC and it worked no problem, no updates required. USB dongles are very cheap just now in argos/ebay anyway.

thanks mate - yeah i know they're cheap as chips just thought I could put this one to good use on an old computer.

if anyone knows and can hep me out i'd appreciate it!

If the drivers aren't pre loaded on the dongle,

you should be able to go onto the providers website 3, Vodaphone, whoever and register,
so you can top it up and see your usage etc.

You download a bit of software, which should have the drivers you need,
then when you press the connect button it will connect to the net.

They don't usually auto connect when plugged in to a PC.

Thanks bees – Its not a dongle that’s been provided by an ISP.

I talking about the actual WiFi dongle that comes specific to the SkyBox F3 that allows connectivity to your router wirelessly. I could never get this to work on my SkyBox so have a physical connection between my router and skybox.

I was hoping I could use the dongle as a wireless adapter between my old PC and router so that the PC can access the internet. The PC is a little dated with no WiFi adapter built in and running Windows XP. The operating system recognises it as a wireless adapter when connected but needs a driver.

I was kinda hoping someone on the forum had the same idea and might have gotten it to work?... I have tried Googling already in case anyone thinks I was too lazy J

Oh I get you now, I thought you where trying to use a providers dongle to get wifi internet to your PC
then use a wireless dongle to pick up the signal with your F3

I was just going to ask if XP gave you the option to search the internet for a driver, then realised that you cannot access the internet until you find a driver! Doh! Catch 22.

The skybox dongles use the Ralink RT5370 chipset, so you could try searching for drivers for that chipset.

I have a cheap, unofficial, dongle that worked OK with my skybox. It came with a small CD. If you cannot find the drivers, I'll see if I can copy the drivers & upload them here.

I have zipped them & uploaded them to File Dropper as the file was too big to attach here. I removed the drivers for Linux, Mac & Win CE to keep the size down.
